In January, I was unanimously appointed to represent Zone 5 on the Desert Healthcare District Board. Now I’m asking voters to put their trust in me this November.

Because we have work to do.

Too many people in our community wait months to see a doctor. Families struggle to find pediatric care. Seniors are referred to specialists outside the Valley. And people seeking mental health care can spend hours making calls without finding the help they need.

We need more providers in the desert. We need to support the healthcare workforce already here. And we need stronger institutions that can meet the needs of our growing communities.

I’ve spent more than a decade serving people in our courtrooms, clinics, shelters and recovery programs. I want to bring that same commitment to service to the work of the District.

I’m asking for your vote this November.

For more than two decades, Underground Books has served as the literary heart of Sacramento's historic Oak Park community—celebrating Black stories, expanding access to books, and creating a gathering place where readers of all generations can learn, connect and be inspired.

Opened in 2003 as part of St. HOPE's 40 Acres Cultural Center, Underground Books was lovingly nurtured by the late Georgia “Mother Rose” West, an Oak Park native whose commitment to literacy and community helped transform the bookstore into one of Sacramento's treasured Black cultural institutions.

From African American literature and children's books to author talks, poetry, community conversations and opportunities for local writers, Underground Books continues Mother Rose's belief that “readers are leaders.”

This Black Business Month, BWOPA-CA celebrates Underground Books and the enduring legacy of Mother Rose—while encouraging our community to Buy Black, support independent bookstores and keep Black stories thriving.

As we continue to celebrate National Black Business Month, BWOPA-CA is proud to uplift MUFUTA, founded by Tiffany Anderson, a certified Natural Hair Trichologist, author and entrepreneur who has spent more than two decades educating and empowering women around natural hair care.

MUFUTA is a natural hair-care brand focused on supporting healthier hair and scalp care. Its product line includes Watercress Oil and Avocado Oil, bringing together Tiffany’s experience in trichology with her commitment to helping women care for and embrace their natural hair.

BLACK WOMEN DESERVE SAFETY, DIGNITY & PROTECTION.

BWOPA CA stands in solidarity with the young Black woman in Antioch who was subjected to disturbing racist harassment and dehumanizing language captured on video.

No Black woman should have to endure racial slurs, intimidation or fear simply because she is living, working or existing in her own community.

Racism cannot be normalized. Racial intimidation cannot be excused. And Black women should never be expected to quietly absorb racial abuse.

We also reject retaliation and vigilantism. Accountability must come through lawful action, community solidarity and our collective refusal to tolerate hate.

To the young woman at the center of this incident:

We see you.
We stand with you.
You are not alone.

And to our community: when you witness racism, speak. When someone is targeted, stand beside them. When Black women say they do not feel safe, listen.

Black women deserve safety, dignity and protection from racial intimidation wherever they show up.

Let's be clear about what this campaign is and is not.

BWOPA-CA demands transparency, responsibility and consequences from those in power. Open processes. Honest information. Leaders who answer to the people. We have always held Black leadership to that standard, and we always will.

Accountability is not punishment. It is protection — it builds trust and prevents the abuse of power.

None of that requires anyone to be threatened, doxxed or made to fear for their family.

Criticize. Organize. Vote. Show up at the meeting and say exactly what you think.

Just don't cross the line into intimidation. That's the whole ask.
