California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and the CDE have partnered with the nonprofit SupplyBank.org to collect and distribute donations and emergency resources to school communities that experience situations such as the chemical storage tank emergency in , especially for homeless students or students and families displaced due to the evacuation order. These contributions can cover hotel costs, along with gas cards, food, water, clothing, and school supplies.

The SupplyBank.org team started their weekend at the annual Safe Kids Day day in Oakland by volunteering with the Alameda County Social Services Agency and distributing 40,000 diapers to 250 families! 🧷🚚

SupplyBank.org was grateful to have co-hosted yesterday's Alameda County Social Services Agency and First 5 Alameda County Diaper Bank Program All-Site Meeting at First 5 Alameda County's offices in Alameda.

It was inspiring to connect with so many dedicated partners who are working every day to support families experiencing diaper need at 60 sites throughout the Alameda County. Diaper Time is Talk Time! 👶🎉

SupplyBank.org has joined forces with Too Small to Fail—the early childhood initiative of the Clinton Foundation—to launch the “Diaper Time Is Talk Time” brand. This new line of diapers and wipes is designed not only to address diaper need, but also to help parents and caregivers support their children’s early brain and language development.

The launch event in Oakland brought together leaders committed to supporting families, including Attorney General Rob Bonta, Barbara Lee, Dr. Chelsea Clinton (virtually) First 5 Alameda County Commissioner and Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas, Benito Delgado-Olson and community partners.

With diaper costs now exceeding $100 per month per child, many families are struggling to keep up. This partnership helps close that gap by providing high-quality, accessible diapers and wipes—while also encouraging meaningful caregiver-child interaction. As Dr. Clinton emphasized, simple everyday moments like diaper changes can become opportunities to talk, read, sing, and count with young children.

The products are already being distributed through trusted community locations across California. Each product includes bilingual prompts in English and Spanish to help spark connection and learning during routine care moments.

This effort builds on a decade of work to ensure families have what they need—not just to get by, but to thrive.
