On June 24th, 2020, Oakland became the first city in the country to abolish an entire school police department by unanimously passing our George Floyd Resolution (GFR).

For more than a decade, working-class Black families, educators, and youth organized for police-free, healing-centered schools in Oakland.

Our continued Black-led, grassroots organizing ensures that Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) will continue to remain police-free for years to come.

Yet, our landmark Black Sanctuary report showed that Black workers holding key positions charged with transforming safety culture in OUSD are making far below a living wage.

The next stage of building Black Sanctuary in The Town is ensuring that our folks can afford to live, thrive, and raise their children here. That’s why we are fighting for $30 by 2030 ✊🏽💜

Join the Black Organizing Project for A Breadth of Blackness: Family Organizing Listening Series, a monthly space for Black families and caregivers of OUSD students to connect, reflect, and build together.

Have you experienced discrimination, targeting, or push-out within OUSD? Are you concerned about how Black students with IEPs are being treated? Your voice matters, and we want to hear from you.

Today, June 2, Oakland and California voters have the opportunity to use one of the most powerful freedoms we have, the freedom to vote.

This right was fought for, marched for, protected, and passed down by those who understood that our voices shape our future. From our schools to our neighborhoods, from public safety to wages, housing, and the cost of living, the decisions made at the ballot box impact our everyday lives.

As Oakland continues the fight for a real living wage and fair working conditions, voting is one way we make it clear that working people deserve to live, not just survive.

Full-time work should be enough to live with dignity.

Across Oakland and Alameda County, workers are doing everything they’re supposed to do, yet rising rent, groceries, gas, and basic costs keep pushing stability further out of reach.

That’s why the Living Wage for All Campaign is fighting for a $30 minimum wage by 2030. This measure is rooted in the real experiences of workers across our region, and it’s a step toward the stability our communities deserve.

From budget cuts to the lack of support for special education students, to anti-Black racism, Black teacher pushout, and school board decisions—we’re holding space for it all.
