Old-world beauty, new-world energy…announcing the first of TWO unique concerts to close out our 2026-2027 season. From the lush, movie-like melodies of Nino Rota to the colorful, shimmering sounds of Maurice Ravel and the light, graceful style of Philippe Gaubert, our program moves through music that feels both comfortingly familiar and excitingly new. At its core, it’s the kind of mix Lakeshore Rush loves most: beloved chamber classics alongside fresh, modern pieces full of personality.

The highlight of the concert is the ✨WORLD PREMIERE✨ of “Thunder Dragon” by Larry Axelrod, written especially for Lakeshore Rush. This electrifying new work unleashes bold sonorities, dramatic contrasts, and vivid musical storytelling. As the first-ever performance of the piece, this premiere represents Lakeshore Rush’s ongoing commitment to championing living composers and bringing brand-new music into the world.

Another flavor of instrumentation from our recent performance at the Northbrook Public Library featuring music inspired by dance, rhythm, and movement: Amos Gillespie’s The Entertainment of Being.

“I wrote this piece for the Lakeshore Rush Ensemble in the Summer of 2020 during the covid-19 pandemic and quarantine. It was a time to be introspective, creative, resourceful and grateful for all things natural; such as our health, family and friends, food, our homes and the outdoors. In many ways, I realized these simple blessings are all you need to be happy.“ -Amos Gillespie, our dazzling saxophone player & composer-in-residence.

Thank you to Northbrook Public Library for hosting us this Sunday afternoon! We presented a variety of instrumentations and styles in this program inspired by dance, including Nino Rota’s Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano.
