The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to embracing life's challenges through cancer research and education.

The Eisenberg Foundation is unique in addressing gastrointestinal cancer research and education.

1) We raise money for gastrointestinal cancer research at Northwestern. More specifically, we fund a nurse practitioner who enables clinical research trials to occur. We recently established the first Gastrointestinal Tumor Bank in the Midwest.

2) The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation provides excitin

g opportunities for students to experience the real working world through the eyes and mind of real estate professionals.

3) Each year, the Foundation works closely with the Real Estate Program at the University of Illinois and the ICSC Foundation to award a student a full one-year scholarship to recognize outstanding achievement in the field of real estate.

This June, the Eisenberg Foundation is proud to celebrate the bravery, strength, and resilience of GI cancer survivors.

Our Junior Board worked tirelessly this past year to raise $10,000+ for our GI cancer research initiatives. We're grateful to the 40+ high school students serving on this board each year.

Our 2025-2026 Scholars entered the home stretch of their 10-month experience with a trip to ICSC 2026 Las Vegas! The scholars had a full itinerary which included networking opportunities, breakout sessions with industry leaders, a conference-wide scavenger hunt, and more.

Happy National Women’s Health Week! Taking care of yourself includes caring for your physical, mental, social, and emotional health. While the risk is similar for both men and women, colorectal cancer is not always a top-of-mind concern for most women, and can present differently. Talk to your doctor about the screenings and exams you may need and when they should occur.

Happy National Nurses Week! The Eisenberg Foundation celebrates nurses today and every day. Heidi Ray, BSN, RN, OCN, is the Clinical Operations Coordinator at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Northwestern Medical Group. In 2019, the Foundation created our Cancer Care Package Program, providing comfort items and essentials to newly diagnosed GI cancer patients. Heidi has led these efforts since 2019, and has distributed more than 100 Cancer Care Packages this year alone. Thank you, Heidi, and all of the other nurses whose passion and dedication knows no bounds!
