At last week's club meeting, Jennifer Keen of the Alzheimer's Association spoke about a comprehensive lifestyle approach to support brain health and potentially lower the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Key elements of this approach include:

• The MIND Diet: Focuses on plant-based foods linked to dementia prevention.

• Sleep and Brain Health: Quality sleep allows the brain to clear out cellular waste and toxic proteins, such as beta-amyloid, which are linked to Alzheimer's disease.

• Word Games and Mental Stimulation: Pairing word games or board games with social interaction provides a greater boost to overall well-being and cognitive reserve.

Very informative and hopeful.

This week's meeting featured Deb DaSilva, Senior Director of Partner Engagement at Exodus World Service. Exodus World Service mobilizes local communities to welcome and befriend refugees (people who are forced to flee their country due to WAR or PERSECUTION). Exodus helps to assimilate refugees by providing support for everyday living (care packs), meeting neighbors (building friendships), and building community (group programs).

At this week's meeting, Community Relations Sargent Carly Gaba of the Glenview Police Department spoke about the department's Blue Envelope Program. This program is designed to help individuals on the autism spectrum or with communication differences during traffic stops and public encounters. The envelope holds important documents and signals to officers that the driver may need clear instructions, patience, and a modified approach. The program provides clear, mutual benefits for drivers and law enforcement: What's inside: Space for your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance card. It also features helpful guidance for drivers on what to expect during a traffic stop to help reduce anxiety. The envelopes are completely free of charge and require no proof of diagnosis or personal registration. You can pick up a Blue Envelope in the lobby of the Glenview Police Department (2500 East Lake Ave) Monday through Friday, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Follow Glenview Police Department on Facebook. Thank you, Sergeant Carly Gaba, for your many years of service to the community

Yesterday, our club provided lunch and service to Youth Services' Summer Program participants. Their Summer Programs are provided for neighborhoods and communities in which children and families may not otherwise have access to youth development and enrichment opportunities. Participants benefit from volunteer support in preparing supplies and food.

Our speakers this week were from our own Glenbrook High School, District 225: Carol Smith, Executive Director of Communications; Dr. Gravel, Superintendent; Dr. Kim Ptak, Director of Operations; and Mrs. Lauren Bonner, Incoming Assistant Superintendent of Student Experiences. They each spoke about District 225's 2027 Capital Projects, which are being financed without referendums by generating power and adding to the "grid," and how the new stadiums/outdoor areas at GBS and GBN will be assets open to the community at large. An excellent presentation that clearly exemplified the amazing cooperation and support among our community organizations as they work together to build a strong, close-knit community, as always. Thank you, District 225!

Our guest speaker last week was Tim Joyce, a bird enthusiast and Birdscaper. Tim fascinated us with his knowledge of birds and the amazing area we live in, where we can view an unbelievable number of bird species that travel thousands of miles, migrating back and forth every year from the top of the Arctic to the Southernmost part of South America. TRULY AMAZING.
