Supporting Michelle & Brad 💛
If you know Michelle, you know how much of herself she has poured into others over the years. She has been a deeply valued part of the Recovery Revolution family for a long time, and Brad is part of our RR family too. Now, we have an opportunity to pour some of that love and support back into them.
Earlier this year, Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing a double mastectomy in June, she and Brad received the wonderful news that her margins were clear and there was no cancer found in her lymph nodes.
During imaging for her reconstruction, however, doctors discovered a concerning nodule on her lung. After additional testing, they learned that it is a separate, primary cancer—Stage 1A non-small cell lung cancer (pulmonary adenocarcinoma).
While hearing the word cancer again was certainly not the news anyone wanted, there is a great deal to be grateful for. It was found early, it is treatable, her prognosis is very encouraging, and Michelle and Brad now have a clear plan focused on treatment, healing, and many years ahead.
Michelle will undergo a segmentectomy at Baptist, where surgeons will remove the affected portion of her lung as well as lymph nodes for additional testing. She is expected to spend several days in the hospital followed by time at home recovering.
Brad shared something with our team that captures why we wanted to organize this support:
“As much of ‘us’ in our marriage are Brad and Michelle, US is also y’all. Our work family plays such a huge role in our support system, our growth and especially our healing. So you guys are in this just like we are.”
And we are. 💛
During the weeks ahead, one practical way we can help is by making meals easier. Based on my own experience spending time in the hospital with my grandson during his cancer journey, DoorDash and meal gift cards were some of the most helpful forms of support. They made it possible to order meals when cooking, shopping, or planning ahead simply wasn’t realistic.
If you would like to participate, please consider sending a DoorDash gift card or contributing toward meals through this Meal Train. This flexibility will allow Michelle and Brad to order what works best for them, whether they are at the hospital, recovering at home, or having a particularly difficult day. Every gift, no matter the amount, can help take one more thing off their plates and give them more time to focus on rest, recovery, and each other.
Michelle and Brad have given so much to the people around them. Now it’s our turn to surround them with the same love, care, and community they have so freely given to others.
Thank you for helping us take care of two people who are special to us! 💛
