💜 NORTH WILKESBORO SUPPORT FOR RECOVERY 💜

At last night’s Town of North Wilkesboro Commissioners meeting, two important proclamations were included on the agenda: International Overdose Awareness Day and National Recovery Month.

We are incredibly grateful to the Town of North Wilkesboro, Mayor Randy Huffman, and the Town Commissioners for continuing to recognize the importance of overdose awareness, recovery, and the individuals and families in our community whose lives have been impacted by substance use.

This recognition extended beyond the proclamation. In honor of National Recovery Month, the Town of North Wilkesboro illuminated the town building in purple — a beautiful and visible reminder that recovery is possible, recovery deserves to be celebrated, and our community stands behind those finding their way forward.

Every proclamation, every purple light, and every public conversation helps reduce stigma and reminds people that they do not have to walk this journey alone.

💛 RECOVERY IS…

This Recovery Month, we’re celebrating recovery in all the ways it shows up.

Because recovery isn't one path.
It isn't one program.
It isn't one definition.
And it certainly doesn't look the same for everyone.

Recovery can be asking for help when you'd rather handle it alone.

It can be showing up when showing up is hard.

It can be treatment. Medication. Therapy. Peer support. A recovery meeting. Faith. Family. Community—or a combination of many things.

It can be setting a boundary you weren't able to set before.

It can be finding people who believe in you until you're ready to believe in yourself.

It can be rebuilding relationships, finding purpose, returning to work, finding stable housing, taking care of your mental health, or simply beginning to imagine a different future.

Sometimes recovery is a huge milestone everyone can see.

And sometimes it's a quiet decision nobody else knows you made.

We celebrate both.

At Recovery Revolution, we believe people deserve the freedom, dignity, support, and opportunity to find the pathway that works for them.

We don't measure recovery by whether someone's journey looks like ours.

We celebrate progress.
We celebrate possibility.
We celebrate second chances.

💛 SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH IN WILKES COUNTY! 💛

This past Tuesday, the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed September 2026 as National Recovery Month in Wilkes County.

For us, this is more than a proclamation. It is a public declaration that recovery is real, recovery is possible, and recovery deserves to be visible and celebrated.

We are especially grateful that this proclamation recognizes not only those living in recovery, but also the families, peer support specialists, treatment and healthcare providers, first responders, employers, faith communities, volunteers, community organizations, and so many others who help make recovery possible.

Throughout September, we’ll be celebrating the many pathways recovery can take and the people who remind us every day that there is no single “right” way to recover.

Recovery can mean rebuilding relationships.
Recovery can mean asking for help.
Recovery can mean treatment or medication.
Recovery can mean finding community and purpose.
Recovery can mean trying again.
And sometimes, recovery simply means still being here.

To every person in recovery: your life, your progress, and your story matter.

Thank you to the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners for recognizing National Recovery Month and for joining our community in reducing stigma, supporting individuals and families, and building a Wilkes County where recovery is visible, celebrated, supported, and accessible to all.

🚨 URGENT: SHORT-TERM FOSTER NEEDED TODAY FOR BELOVED SENIOR DOG 🐾

Sometimes loving an animal means asking for help when life suddenly becomes more than you can manage alone.

We are trying to help a gentleman who has recently entered into homelessness and is ready to accept the care and support he needs to begin working toward stability. We have secured bed placement for him TODAY, but there is one immediate barrier: he needs a safe, temporary place for the senior dog who has been by his side for years.

We are NOT looking to permanently rehome or surrender his dog.

Right now, we simply need someone willing to step in and provide a safe, short-term foster home while his owner navigates the care he needs and works toward stabilizing his situation.

His dog is a 12-year-old, approximately 80-pound Bully/Blue Heeler mix who has clearly been deeply loved and well cared for. His owner has continued to prioritize his dog's needs even while experiencing his own crisis. His veterinary care has been maintained, he is current on vaccinations, and he takes two medications to help with pain and mobility in his back legs.

His owner has reached the heartbreaking realization that their current circumstances are becoming too physically difficult for his aging companion. Without stable housing, they are spending significant time walking, and his senior dog's back legs simply cannot handle it anymore.

This isn't an owner walking away from his dog.

It is an owner who loves him enough to say, "I need help taking care of him while I get help taking care of myself."

This sweet senior needs a soft bed, a safe place to rest his tired legs, and someone willing to give him a little love and patience while his owner works toward getting back on his feet.

He has spent time at our recovery center and our team describes him as incredibly sweet and friendly with people. He would likely do best in a calm home. He does not appear to be a good fit with cats or very small, high-energy dogs that get into his space, so a home without those animals would be preferable.

🐾 About this sweet senior:

12 years old
Approximately 80 lbs.
Bully/Blue Heeler mix
Current on vaccinations and veterinary care
Takes two medications for pain/mobility in his back legs
Very sweet and friendly with people
Senior boy who mostly needs somewhere comfortable to rest
Best suited for a calm home without cats or small, high-energy dogs
Immediate SHORT-TERM foster needed

🚨 THIS IS TIME-SENSITIVE — WE NEED HELP TODAY. 🚨

His owner has a bed available today and is ready to accept help. We want him to be able to take that opportunity without feeling that doing so means permanently losing the companion he loves.

Our hope is to give this gentleman the time and space to focus on getting stabilized while knowing that his best friend is somewhere safe, warm, loved, and waiting.

If his circumstances stabilize and he is able to safely resume caring for his dog, our goal is for them to have the opportunity to be reunited.

Sometimes supporting a person's recovery means caring for the things they love most while they work on caring for themselves.

Today, that means we need someone willing to open their home to one sweet old dog for a little while.
