The American Discovery Trail’s 250 Relay travelled the Grand Kankakee Marsh Trail and the Erie Trail through North Judson in celebration of the Declaration of Independence, which was signed 250 years ago. The batons held copies of the Declaration. Local school children made welcome signs for the participants, which were collected and erected by PTC volunteers.

In a project led by Prairie Trails Club volunteers from Starke County (Indiana), local students made approximately 100 posters to welcome the America 250 Relay participants! PTC members will be putting these signs along the Erie Trail and Grand Kankakee Marsh Trail on October 15th.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to expand the Erie Trail/Grand Kankakee Marsh Trail through North Judson, the first Trail Town in the state!!! Yesterday’s celebration and ribbon cutting brought together representatives from local, state, and national organizations who support trails for their role in promoting healthy lifestyles, economic development, and community spirit. It was a great celebration, and we’ll have more pictures to share!
