Nearly 21,000 babies are stillborn every year in the United States. 💜

For thousands of families each year, pregnancy ends not with the homecoming they imagined, but with an unimaginable goodbye.

These babies were anticipated. They were celebrated. They were loved before they were ever held — and that love does not disappear after loss.

During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we share statistics like this to help make visible a grief that can too often feel invisible.

Say their names. Remember important dates. Check in on their parents. Give families the space to talk about their babies — whether their loss happened days ago or decades ago.

Because stillborn does not mean forgotten. 💜

It can be easy to read a statistic and move on. But 1 in 175 is more than a number.

It’s a baby who was already deeply loved.
A name chosen.
A future imagined.
A family forever changed.

Throughout Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we’re sharing these facts to help make pregnancy and infant loss something our communities are more willing to acknowledge, understand, and talk about.

💙EVERY PLATFORM IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REACH ANOTHER FAMILY.

We are incredibly grateful every time AFF is invited onto a television set, behind a microphone, into a classroom, or in front of a new audience.

Because every time pregnancy and infant loss is talked about publicly, we push back against the silence that has surrounded it for generations.

These conversations tell grieving parents that their experiences deserve to be acknowledged.

They introduce people to resources they may not have known existed.

And they remind our community that these babies and their stories matter.

We will continue using every platform we’re given to make sure this conversation is heard. 💙

There are more stillbirths every year than deaths from prematurity and SUID/SIDS combined. 💜

Stillbirth affects thousands of families every year, yet it remains a form of loss that many people know very little about — and one that can be incredibly difficult for families to talk about.

That’s why awareness matters.

During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we’re helping bring these conversations into the light. Not to compare one type of loss to another, but to help people understand the scale of stillbirth and why continued education, research, resources, and support for bereaved families are so important.

Every baby deserves to be remembered.
Every family deserves to feel supported.
And every loss deserves to be acknowledged. 💜

Every booth. Every presentation. Every interview. Every fundraiser. Every conversation.

Behind all of it is the same goal: make sure more families know that support exists.
Someone may walk past an AFF table today and never need our services.

They may also remember our name months or years from now when a friend, coworker, sibling or family member experiences a loss and doesn’t know where to turn.

Awareness creates connections. Connections create access to support.

And sometimes, simply knowing where to turn can make an incredibly difficult moment a little less overwhelming.

💙 THE PEOPLE WHO MEET FAMILIES IN THEIR HARDEST MOMENTS MATTER.

Nurses, physicians, social workers and other healthcare professionals are often among the first people beside a family experiencing pregnancy or infant loss.

That’s why education is such an important part of what we do.

AFF has been grateful for opportunities to speak with healthcare professionals and future healthcare providers about perinatal grief, compassionate communication, trauma-informed support, and the resources available to families after loss.

A single interaction cannot take away a family’s grief.

But compassion, understanding and the right words in an impossible moment can stay with someone forever. 💙

1 in 6 women will be diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after a stillbirth. 💜

Pregnancy and infant loss does not end when a family leaves the hospital. The emotional and psychological impact of losing a baby can continue long after the loss itself.

For some mothers, that grief can also include symptoms of trauma — a reminder of why compassionate, informed, and ongoing support for bereaved parents matters so deeply.

During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we want to help bring attention not only to the babies who are lost, but also to the parents and families learning how to carry that loss forward.

Check in. Listen without judgment. Remember their baby. Continue showing up — even after the initial days and weeks have passed.

Grief has no timeline, and support shouldn’t either. 💜

💙 AWARENESS MATTERS. ACTION MATTERS, TOO.

At the Ari Foss Foundation, raising awareness about pregnancy and infant loss will always be an important part of our mission — but we also want families to know there is tangible help available when they need it.

Through our Cremation & Funeral Financial Assistance Program, AFF helps families facing the heartbreaking financial burden of laying their baby to rest.

Because grief is already heavy enough.

This October, as we share statistics, stories, resources and information about pregnancy and infant loss, we also want families to hear this:
You do not have to navigate every part of this alone.
