VFW Post 406 Members still serving!

Recently, VFW Post 406's own Sharon Twaddle McGinnis, a former US Army Captain and proud veteran of the 82nd Airborne, traveled to Michigan to play at the American Dunes Golf Club. Sharon participated in a Veterans Golf Association (VGA) morning outing, fulfilling a vow she made after meeting Lt. Col. Dan Rooney last summer.

The American Dunes team highlighted Sharon in their weekly "Mission Brief," recognizing her dedicated military service, which included stations at Fort Hood and Fort Bragg, and a deployment to Bosnia. They also gave a fantastic shoutout to the work she continues to do back home in Newport, supporting veterans through VFW Post 406 and honoring Gold Star Families via her involvement with Gold Star Sailing. We are incredibly proud of Sharon for representing Post 406 across the country!

On Friday, June 5th, the JROTC Awards Ceremony was held at Rogers High School in Newport.

VFW Post 406 was honored to have Junior Vice Commander Sharon McGinnis and Post Trustee Brian Rochelle present the prestigious Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citation and Medal Award to Cadet Yosuel Melendez.

This award recognizes Cadet Melendez's outstanding achievements and exceptional leadership abilities. Congratulations to Cadet Melendez and to all the cadets who continue to demonstrate excellence in leadership, academics, community service, and citizenship within their local JROTC program!

Our post members have been working hard—from our recent grave flagging around Newport cemeteries to finalizing these solemn and commemorative events—and we would be honored by your presence.

10:30 AM: Strewing of Flowers Ceremony at Storer Park

Noon: Newport City Hall Memorial Day Ceremony

Yesterday was a day to remember! ☘️

VFW Post 406 was proud to march in the 70th Annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade. From the kickoff at City Hall through the heart of the Fifth Ward, the energy and community spirit were absolutely incredible. It is always an honor to represent our local veterans in such a historic Newport tradition.

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the crowds and chill to cheer us on. If you or someone you know is interested in joining VFW Post 406, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Epic game and epic turnout! 🏈🇺🇸

​Yesterday’s Army/Navy watch party at Newport Protective Club was one for the books. We are absolutely blown away by the generosity shown by our community. A massive thank you to the EJMP Fund for Philanthropy for their incredible donation of $8,807 to fund veteran outreach!

​Thanks to the support of all who attended, we were also able to raise significant funds for Gold Star Sailing, helping them continue their support of the children of fallen service members.

​A special shoutout to the staff at The Protective Club for their top-notch hospitality and for hosting us. Thank you to everyone who came out, cheered, and supported the event!
