The mission of Achilles International is to enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream running events in order to promote personal achievement. Over the years, Achilles has developed specialized programs for children and war veterans. Achilles Kids provides training, racing opportunities, and an in-school program for children with disabilities, while our Freedom Team program brings race and marathon opportunities to wounded, ill and injured veterans post trauma.

50 years of challenging what’s possible. When Achilles International Mongolia Chapter Lead Amarjargal Davaa first joined Achilles, one moment changed the trajectory of her life:

“Seeing Saranchuluun, a young woman with a prosthetic leg, leading others, running, hiking, and radiating absolute confidence, shattered my excuses... I realized that limitations exist only in the mind.”

Since Dick Traum made history at the 1976 New York City Marathon, Achilles has grown into a global movement built around that same belief: breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for athletes with disabilities around the world.

Ain't no mountain high enough for Achilles Pikes Peak!

On August 1, the team proudly participated in Summit 2026, a statewide initiative organized by the Colorado Mountain Club celebrating Colorado's 150th anniversary and the United States' 250th anniversary.

Starting from the Crags Trailhead, seven Achilles athletes and guides took on the 14-mile, Class 2 route to the summit of Pikes Peak, climbing more than 4,000 feet together. When we work as a team, even the biggest challenges become possible.

The Achilles family knows no borders. Earlier this month, athletes from Achilles Brazil and Achilles International - Washington, DC Chapter joined Achilles México for a workout, and Brazil athlete Henrique Tiepo lined up alongside more than 20 Achilles Mexico athletes at the Mexico City Half Marathon!

No matter where we are in the world, we're stronger together.

Pour myself a cup of ambition… and head straight to the start line! to Dollywood race weekend in Pigeon Forge, TN. Achilles International - Nashville and teammates from other chapters sang, sparkled, and ran, walked and rolled their hearts out, just the way Dolly Parton would want it. 💖🏃‍♀️
