Martina Arroyo Foundation

Martina Arroyo Foundation Young Artist Program for Opera Singers We hope you will join us for an upcoming class or performance.

Opera is the melting pot of many art forms so it is not surprising that years of study and ongoing dedication are needed to become a mature artist. Here at the Foundation we pride ourselves on helping young singers by giving them the tools necessary to achieve their goals. Our intensive program of study, coaching and performance helps our singers gain the confidence to maximize their creative and artistic potential in the very competitive profession they have chosen to pursue.

Let Your Voice Be Heard!
Dear Friends:

Like many arts organizations, The Martina Arroyo Foundation's Prelude to Performance has been dramatically impacted by COVID-19. The Foundation is committed to the health and safety of everyone attending, performing in, or working at our concerts.

As we face this global health crisis, organizations and donors nationwide are joining together tomorrow, Tuesday May 5, to ensure that cultural organizations such as ours have a healthy future. is a world-wide day of generosity and unity, a day to come together in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

While our 2020 season has been postponed, we look forward to seeing you for the Summer of 2021 when we return with the operas you've grown to love, featuring the young artists we train and nurture through our wonderful Prelude to Performance summer program. And for this, we need your help.

Tomorrow, people all around the world are coming together to strengthen organizations such as ours at the grassroots level. Won't you let your voice be heard? Your generous support is critical to the development of our young artists. Here is how you can help:

1. Give. On May 5, please visit https://www.martinaarroyofdn.org/donate to make your fully tax-deductible gift.

2. Follow. Please follow us on Facebook and invite your friends to do the same.

3. Spread the word. Encourage your friends and family to join you in creating real impact on May 5 by sharing what our mission means to you and why you support our organization.

We are all in this together. A gift to The Martina Arroyo Foundation means that more singers will be able to explore the artistic discipline of past generations and begin to inform their own performance at a meaningful time in their development. Your generous support is critical to the development of our young artists.

Additionally, since we can't be with you this summer, we'd like to keep you with us in spirit and song. Beginning tomorrow and over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some video links of Prelude to Performance's past performances, featuring many of our young artists who have gone on to perform at major opera houses throughout the world. Please keep an eye out for some of these treasured performances.

We ask you to be as generous as you can and thank you for your continued support. We hope that you and your families remain healthy and safe during this very trying time.

Sincerely,

Martina Arroyo, President
Deborah Surdi, Administrative Director

Maestro was admitted into Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami with Covid 19. He is not on a ventilator, thankfully, but will need everyone's postive thoughts and prayers.

Please go to this site for the latest on Maestro's progress and do send messages and photos to him on the site. He will see them as soon as he is able.

Get well, Maestro! We all love you!

The Martina Arroyo Foundation will continue its important work for young singers in the 2020 season with two of its programs: Role Preparation Class with Martina Arroyo, which explores and develops the character of complete operatic roles through the historic and musical setting of the work, and its innovative Outreach Program which introduces opera to New York City school students who have little or no access to this art form. Additionally, the Foundation will present recitals throughout the season featuring current and past participants of its programs. The Foundation will take a break from presenting Prelude to Performance for the Summer of 2020, and will rigorously continue its fundraising efforts to present two complete operas in 2021.

Happy Holidays! Hope you are having a wonderful holiday season!

We have some great news about our Prelude to Performance Alums!

Bass, Patrick Guetti, Prelude 2011 Alum, will be making his Metropolitan Opera debut as Sarastro in the Met's production of The Magic Flute on Jan. 3 at 7:30pm.
Patrick won the Met auditions in 2014.
He sang the role of Commendatore in Prelude's production of Don Giovanni in 2011. His shared that role in Prelude with Bass-Baritone, Ryan Speedo Green.

Five Prelude Alums have won their District Competitions of Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. They will be going on to the Regionals next and then hopefully to the semi-finals!
These alums are:

Soprano, Nina Mutalifu, Prelude 2018( Alice Ford, Falstaff)

Baritone, Ben Reisinger, Prelude 2017( Doctor in Gianni Schicchi and Dancaire cover in Carmen)

Tenor, Woo Young Yoon, Prelude 2017( Cover for Don Jose in Carmen)

Baritone, Jimin Park, Prelude 2019( Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus)

Baritone, Michael Parham, Prelude 2019( Falke in Die Fledermaus)

Also, Elisabeth Harris was mentioned in Fred Plotkin's Freddie Awards( Excellence in Opera Awards) in the "Prick Up Your Ears" category."

ELISABETH HARRIS, mezzo from New Zealand, sang Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, presented by the Martina Arroyo Foundation as part of its essential Prelude to Performance initiative. Her voice had tonal quality that brought to mind that of the great Tatiana Troyanos, which is a gift. Her singing and acting of the bored prince was always engaging and charismatic, no small achievement in what is an unexpectedly tricky role. "
