Physical activity can support joint health, strength, and overall well-being. The key is finding activities that are appropriate for your individual needs and working with your care team to understand potential risks.

Factor X deficiency is inherited. This means it is passed on from biological parents to a child at the time of conception. When this happens, the body does not make enough working factor X.

Factor X is needed to prevent bleeding. You can't "catch" it from another person.

Understanding the facts helps us build greater awareness of ultra-rare bleeding disorders.

Candi Mitchum had seen multiple doctors and tried almost everything to address her heavy periods. She was having two seven-day periods a month, and finally her doctors told her if she wanted the bleeding to stop, she needed to get a hysterectomy, but the bleeding was so excessive after the procedure she required a second operation.

“It’s crazy to think that I was in the hands of so many different people over the course of these years, and not one person said, ‘What about her blood?’” she says. “Everybody just assumed that because I’m a female, it was a female problem.”

This story is all-too familiar for women and girls with bleeding disorders.

The new issue of HemAware Spotlight explores Candi’s story and how it related to larger issues in women’s healthcare. Check it out: https://bit.ly/4hBDLyQ
