Join us for the final Origami Connect of the season on Saturday with
Yuki Martin!

๐Ÿ“† Saturday, May 2

๐ŸŒธ Trillium with Yuki Martin

๐Ÿคฉ Origami Connect is OrigamiUSAโ€™s program of online classes, open to anyone anywhere in the world, whether or not you are a member of OrigamiUSA. All you need is a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Inspired by the distinctive three-petaled trillium flower common in Pacific Northwest woodlands, Yuki created an elegant origami representation of this plant.

Participants will fold the flower and leaves from equilateral triangles and the stamen from a 1:4 rectangle, with all components beginning from 6-inch (15 cm) squares.

A BIG thank you to Kathleen Sheridan, all of our teachers and the whole Origami Connect team for a fabulous season!

Inspired by a classic flexagon workshop at the Moves conference hosted by the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMATH) in 2025, Sy will teach a tri-hexaflexagon and share a pattern variation not included in the published diagram.

He will also demonstrate his hexa-hexaflexagon (six faces) and briefly discuss his new book, Einstein Origami: Paper Puzzles & Games.

โ€ผ๏ธ No prior flexagon experience required.

Thank you for joining us at Origami University over the past month!

A BIG THANK YOU to all our teachers, presenters and attendees who took part and graduated from Origami University. And to our incredible Junior Board who organized such an amazing and unique event!

The final instalment of Origami University was all about STEM applications of origami with an incredible array of expert presenters and panellists. The day concluded with a hands-on design sprint, where participants collaborated to come up with innovative applications of origami in STEM fields.

โ“Who is OrigamiUSAโ€™s Junior Board? In 2025, we formed a Junior Board to engage and empower younger members of the paperfolding community by allowing them to take an active role in the organization. Junior Board members are 13-21.

Honoring the life of origami luminary Toshikazu Kawasaki (1955-2026)

Last month at the news of Toshikazu Kawasaki's passing, we put out a call through our member email list for photographs of Kawasaki roses.

We had an amazing response - thank you to everyone who sent us images of roses and your other favorite Kawasaki-san models. Some of these images are now published online in The Fold and more will be featured in a tribute in our membership magazine, The Paper.

The most well-known Kawasaki rose is based on a square grid that runs parallel to the edges of the paper, and you will see many examples here. There is also a Rose with a finer grid at a 22ยฝ-degree angle to the edge and a Rose Bud with a color-change calyx. And finally, there is the 1-Minute Rose, which Kawasaki (and few others) could actually fold in a minute. Kawasaki also made tessellations based on some of these roses.

You can read more about Toshikazu Kawasaki online in The Fold (link in comment below). We'll also have an article celebrating the life of Kawasaki-san in the upcoming issue of our membership magazine, The Paper (Issue 150).
