Notice about LIRR Strike Update and Picket Locations from NYC-CLC:

As you are aware, the Long Island Rail Road bargaining coalition of rail unions representing approximately 3,500 workers is now on strike. The strike comes after three years of contract talks and four years without a raise, and despite the recommendations of two federal panels of experts who recommended raises for LIRR workers. The shutdown is expected to significantly impact transportation throughout the region over the coming days, affecting hundreds of thousands of daily commuters.

These unions are fighting for a fair contract to prevent a loss in real wages for their members, and ensure stability for the busiest commuter rail service in the nation. We ask that affiliates who are able to support picket actions please do so.

Priority picket locations are currently:

Penn Station, 7th Avenue and West 33rd Street, New York, NY 10119, 7AM-7PM

Jamaica Station, 93-02 Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica NY 11435, 7AM-7PM

Ronkonkoma Station, 80 Railroad Ave, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779, 7AM-7PM

We are in communication with relevant affiliates and parties involved and will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.

On May 12, 2026, APWU President Jonathan Smith and Public Citizen’s Rob Weissman have a live conversation on democracy, the importance of Vote-by-Mail, the realities behind the rhetoric, and what’s at stake for our communities. Together, they will also break down the recent Callais v. Louisiana Supreme Court case in plain terms for postal workers: what it is, why it matters, and how it could impact voting rights nationwide.

Friday, May 1, 4:00PM: Join the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO; New York Immigration Coalition; union & community members from across the City to commemorate International Workers Day!

May Day, or International Workers’ Day, is the day the world celebrates the bravery of workers throughout history who have sacrificed for safety, dignity, and justice on the job.

We’re united in our resolve to fight for a better future for ALL workers abroad and at home, including those targeted by this administration.

Our solidarity is our strength. We take pride in knowing that we are a global movement standing up to the billionaires who are threatening our rights and freedoms.

We'll gather to rally in Washington Square Park and march down Broadway in solidarity to Foley Square. More info/RSVP here:

Good Morning APWU Family:

The attached Mandatory Stand-up Talk and FERS Frequently Asked Questions Talking Points are dated last week but were just received from USPS management a short while ago.

The Stand-up Talk is referred to by the USPS as its “cash conservation plan” but calling it what it is, it’s the USPS intention to temporarily suspend the Employer contribution to the defined benefit portion of FERS.

As always, should you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

In solidarity,

Pete Coradi
