Numbers can tell a story. Ours tell a story of lives reached, conditions detected, and care made possible.

We recently updated our Impact Highlights page, and three numbers in particular caught our attention. Each represents thousands of moments when access to the right tools and care made a meaningful difference:

1. 164,425 ultrasound scans for expectant mothers:
164,425 opportunities to monitor pregnancies, reassure mothers, and help clinicians identify complications early.

2. 50,000 people with hypertension detected and enrolled in treatment:
50,000 people who were identified, started on treatment, and connected to follow-up care, turning early detection into an opportunity for better health outcomes.

3. 6,257 high-risk pregnancies identified and referred for life-saving care:
6,257 mothers and their babies identified as being at risk and connected to the specialized care they needed.

These numbers reflect what is possible when timely detection, appropriate technology, and quality healthcare come together.

Behind every hepatitis statistic is a person, a parent, a neighbor, a friend, and a family whose life can be changed by timely prevention, testing, and care.

The good news is that this viral hepatitis is preventable, treatable, and, in many cases, curable. But this is only possible when communities have the knowledge, services, and support they need.
At Health Builders, we are strengthening primary healthcare systems across Rwanda by improving health infrastructure, training frontline health workers, and empowering communities with health education.

Through our partnerships with local health centers, more families can access quality prevention, screening, and care for hepatitis and other preventable diseases.

Every day, Community Health Workers walk alongside families, monitoring pregnancies, checking on children, supporting people living with chronic conditions, and connecting communities to essential healthcare services.

By replacing paper records with digital tools and strengthening Community Health Workers' clinical skills, we're helping ensure that care is more timely, health information is more accurate, and patients receive the follow-up they need.

It's another step toward a stronger, more resilient health system one where innovation supports the people making a difference every day.

"Healthcare has always been an important part of our family's story... Over time, these connections and conversations inspired us to support the health system strengthening in Rwanda, a country that feels like a second home to us." — Al Pace
Some partnerships don't just build health facilities; they help build stronger health systems.

For years, Al Pace and Kristin Morch have supported Health Builders in expanding access to quality healthcare across Rwanda. Their generous support has made it possible to construct five health centers and three health posts, bringing quality healthcare closer to thousands of people and helping strengthen Rwanda's health system.

Their latest support for the expansion of Muyumbu Health Center will strengthen maternal and primary healthcare services for more than 60,000 people. The project includes a new maternity block, an operating theatre for emergency obstetric care, dedicated postnatal care rooms, and upgraded clinical infrastructure to support safer deliveries and healthier communities.

We are deeply grateful to Al Pace, Kristin Morch, and the Pace Family Foundation for their longstanding partnership and unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare in Rwanda.

"Before, we used paper registers to record patient information, but they were not always reliable... Now, with smartphones and training on how to use them, we can safely store information and serve more people more effectively." — Yvonne Niyongabire, Community Health Worker

For Community Health Workers like Yvonne, the transition from paper registers to digital records is transforming the way they care for their communities.

Through a partnership between Health Builders, the Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), and district health teams, more than 5,500 Community Health Workers in Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Kicukiro have been trained to use the Community Electronic Medical Record (cEMR) system. Equipped with smartphones and essential screening tools, they're spending less time on paperwork and more time delivering quality care.

A new chapter for maternal healthcare has begun in Rwamagana District.

Health Builders, together with the Ministry of Health, Rwamagana District, healthcare workers, community members, and valued partners, officially broke ground on the expansion of Muyumbu Health Center.

Once complete, the upgraded facility will serve more than 60,000 people, providing:

1. A new maternity block

2. An operating theatre for emergency obstetric care

3. Dedicated postnatal care rooms

Improved water, sanitation, electricity, and infection prevention systems.

This investment will bring safer deliveries and stronger primary healthcare closer to families who need it most.

Every mother deserves access to quality care. Every newborn deserves a healthy start.

Today, Health Builders and its supporters marked the groundbreaking for the expansion of maternity services at Muyumbu Health Center in Rwamagana District.

This important upgrade will strengthen access to safe, quality maternal and newborn care for thousands of families across the community.

The project includes a new maternity ward, a dedicated waiting area, and a postpartum room, improving both capacity and dignity of care for mothers and newborns.

We are grateful for the continued support of Al Pace and Kristin Morch, whose long-standing commitment to strengthening healthcare in Rwanda has contributed to improving access to quality services for communities across the country. We are also proud to work alongside the Ministry of Health, Rwamagana District, and our partners to continue strengthening health systems and bringing essential services closer to the people who need them most.

Safe motherhood and healthy newborns start with skilled, confident health workers.

Through the Helping Mothers Survive and Helping Babies Survive programs, health workers practice real-life emergency scenarios using hands-on simulations and drills. This help build the confidence and skills needed to respond quickly during childbirth and newborn emergencies.

By strengthening the health workers’ skills, Health Builders is helping improve the quality of care available to mothers and babies across communities.

Behind every safe pregnancy and delivery are skilled and supported healthcare providers.

Through the Helping Mothers Survive and Helping Babies Survive program, Health Builders equips midwives, nurses, and other health workers with practical, hands-on skills to respond quickly and effectively during pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn emergencies.
