LaneCoArts is a unique blend of dance, theater and visual arts. The mission of the company is to crea

LaneCoArts explores the concept of communication in today’s technologically driven world through a self-referential process of collaboration with other artists where the juxtaposed creative languages, engender a process of essential interchange, communication and cross-pollination. The goal is to connect with today’s audience through meaningful social commentary and physically charged dance dramas. After attending Purchase College Conservatory of Dance / MFA program, Lane Gifford founded LaneCoArts in 2006. Performances include: Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, New York International Fringe Festival, Dixon Place, Baruch Performing Arts Center, Triskelion Arts, Le Poisson Rouge, New York Theater Workshop, the 92nd St. Y, Judson Church/STUFFED, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, DANCENOW, Boston Center For The Arts/Mills Gallery, Dance New Amsterdam RAW Directions, American Dance Guild, ITE Dance Festival, Women in Dance Project/Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Freight Project Residency/Performance and LaneCoArts presented by Performance Project at University Settlement/2015. Commissioned projects include Boston Center for the Arts/Dance Resident Artist Program/2015, a 2014 commission for Fellowship Recipient Kari Mosel (McKnight Artist Program), a Choreographic Fellowship at the University of Kansas/2014, residency and new creation for Southern Utah University/2012 & 2013, collaborative work for Ballet Nouveau Colorado and Redline Gallery/2011, commissioned work for Joffrey Ballet School/2015, Bryant Park Festival/2016, and Northeast Choreographer Residency/2016. Lane Gifford was a finalist in the Western Michigan University 2015 National Choreography Competition. Upcoming events 2017: Dance Place (Washington DC), Jersey City Theater Center, and a Kaatsbaan Residency. Awards include: Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation for Dance Place (Special Presenters Initiative program) Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant, Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Grant, Manhattan Community Arts Fund Grant, Building Up Infrastructure Levels for Dance (BUILD) Grant, Professional Incentive Award (Columbia University), Outstanding MFA Award (Purchase College) and French Cultural Service/Government Grant (Paris, France).

Introducing Gabby, LaneCoArts dancer and collaborator bringing ESTUARY to the stage. 🍃 As our final artist introduction, we’re excited to share the work with Portland audiences on Friday and Saturday.

Gabrielle DiNizo, an Ohio native, graduated summa cm laude with a BFA in Dance and English from Fordham University/The Ailey School, where she performed works by Robert Battle, Earl Mosley, Brice Mousset, and Adam Barruch. Her performance credits include Parsons Dance, Forza Dance, Jon Lehrer Dance Company, and XY Motion, an evening-length duet directed by Xiang Xu. Her passion for sustaining the arts extends beyond the stage through marketing and development roles with Parsons Dance and Forza Dance.

The company has arrived in 📍Maine and is gearing up for our performances THIS Friday and Saturday at thehillartsme!

Today we’re introducing LaneCoArts dancer and collaborator, Richard Sayama (Richard Sayama 佐山鉄心):

Originally from Honolulu, Hawai’i, Richard Sayama graduated early from Marymount Manhattan College with a double major in B.F.A Modern Dance and B.A Business Arts & Management. He is currently pursuing his MFA Dance from Hunter College while also teaching as an adjunct lecturer.

Post undergraduate, Sayama performed with companies such as Limón Dance Company, Jon Lehrer Dance Company, LaneCoArts, and H.T Chen & Dancers where he toured domestically and internationally for over 5 years to countries such as Japan, Austria, Germany, Scotland, and Colombia. He is also Associate Founder of Obremski/Works and Associate Director of Feathers Dance Company.

Sayama’s choreography has been showcased at KnJ Theater at Peridance, SoloDuo Dance Festival, Steffi Nossen Choreography Showcase, and was also featured in Tokyo, Japan and Guadalajara Mexico. He is currently a resident choreographer at Feathers Dance Company and General Mischief Dance Theater.

Meet the Cast: Mizuho Kappa
We’re excited to introduce Mizuho Kappa, one of the incredible performers bringing ESTUARY to the stage this Friday and Saturday in Portland!

Mizuho Kappa is a choreographer and performing artist originally from Osaka, Japan, with a degree in Entomology. She has recently performed with Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More NY, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Yoshiko Chuma & The School of Hard Knocks, and Ballet Collective, among others. Her self-choreographed solo works have been presented at The Shed, La MaMa, Gene Frankel Theater, TheaterLab, The Brick, Ars Nova, NOoSPHERE ARTS and more. She frequently collaborates with cross-disciplinary artists, including a neuroscience researcher, transmedia playwright, hybrid writer and puppet designer. These collaborative works have been showcased at the New Museum, New York Hall of Science, Open Source Gallery, Grace Exhibition Space, City University of Hong Kong, House of Yes, the Chocolate Factory and beyond. Kappa is a commissioned choreographer for Peridance Contemporary Dance Company ‘25 Season, and a recipient of the GALLIM Moving Artist Residency ‘25, Mark Morris SharedSpace Residency ‘26 and Triskelion Art Split Bill ‘26. Her choreographic voice is recognized for conveying narrative through raw expression, unexpected physicality, and striking surrealistic tableaux, described as “evoking and unhinged” by Brooklyn Magazine and “potent” by The New York Times.

Today we are highlighting LaneCoArts dancer and collaborator, Emily Aslin 💚

Emily Aslin (she/her) is a New York-based dance artist and choreographer and the founder of Aslin Projects. She is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA program and has worked with the likes of Donald Byrd, Mike Tyus, Akira Uchida, Jamar Roberts, Felix Landerer, Marion Sparber, Lane Gifford, and Alexander Anderson. Emily has performed with companies such as Kizuna Dance, LaneCoArts, Synchronous, and spent summers at b12, the Donald Byrd Workshop, the Ailey Intensive, the Kizuna Dance Intensive, and the VIM VIGOR Intensive among others. Her work was chosen for the 2025 92Y Future Dance Festival and she has also presented work at 14St. Y, The Craft NY, Arts on Site, and Theaterlab. Emily was an artist in residence at The Visionary in 2025 and Carroll Hall in 2024. She premiered her first evening-length work, Dint, at Theaterlab in November 2025 and presented her work at APAP at Peridance Center in January 2026.
