It’s the final day of National Teaching Artist Appreciation Week, and we’re closing it out by introducing you to someone truly special…Reuben! To celebrate our TAs and the incredible work they do, we are taking some time to highlight a few who help make our mission possible. 💞 Today, we are highlighting Reuben, and the work he did as a Creative Writing Teaching Artist, Logistics Coordinator, and Team Lead at Arts Ignite Waterloo! Check out his answers below! ⬇️
What is a moment that captures the magic of arts education?
“In just 8 days, our ‘company’ of Multilingual Learners devised and performed their own original musicals in front of an audience of young children from other camps. That audience was in awe, gasping, laughing, cheering, and still singing the songs long after the final bows. Our students got to see the impact their words, voices, and ideas could have on others.”
What makes Arts Ignite Waterloo so special?
“For two weeks each summer, we get to transform a few empty Waterloo classrooms into a joyful creative community of artists, educators, and students from around the world.”
His teaching philosophy is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: creative empowerment - everyone here is a writer and an artist. And above all, he hopes students carry one thing with them long after the final bows: Confidence in the power of their voices and ideas.
Thank you, Reuben, for making an impact with Arts Ignite!
