Today we honor Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Harlem sits on Lenape homeland, and for thousands of years, Indigenous peoples have cared for this land, understanding that people are part of the natural ecosystem, not separate from it. They taught us to give back to the soil as much as we take and to think about how today's choices affect future generations.

Those lessons are at the heart of what we do on Harlem Grown's farms, where our young people learn that caring for the land and caring for each other go hand in hand.

Every garden starts with someone who plants a seed and helps it grow. Today, on World Teachers' Day, we celebrate the educators who nurture our young people with patience and care. From the classroom to the farm, they help our kids put down roots and reach for the sun. Thank you for helping Harlem grow. 💚

This summer was filled with discovery and adventure as our campers became NYC Eco-Detectives, investigating the natural world through hands-on gardening, cooking, STEAM activities, and outdoor exploration.

As Harlem Grown Agents, campers took on missions like The Case of the Struggling Seedlings, gathering evidence about what plants need to thrive: healthy soil, sunlight, water, and air. They also tackled The Case of the Hot Harlem Block, exploring why some neighborhoods feel hotter than others and how communities can create cooler, healthier environments.

Campers also danced, made music, conducted experiments, and ventured beyond our farms on field trips to the Bronx Zoo, Randall's Island Park Alliance Sports Camp, The Art Farm, Wagner Park, and more.

We already can't wait for next summer!

Harlem Grown's Chief Program Officer, Shanon Morris, will be speaking on the panel alongside leaders in food, nutrition, and education. Come learn more about this initiative to amplify the importance of farm fresh, seasonal meals for schoolchildren across the United States.

It was an honor meeting Alice Waters at the The Henry Ford screening of " Farm to School" documentary.
We also caught up with the 1st partner of California, the amazing Jennifer Siebel Newsom who afain, came uptown to our. 127th st farm where she witnessed our free fram stand and met our partners Sharing Excess.
