Join Off The Record for The State of Nuclear Security with Rose Gottemoeller, former Deputy Secretary General of NATO and internationally recognized expert on arms control, nuclear security, and international diplomacy.

Drawing on her new book, Security through Cooperation: Space, Nuclear Weapons and US-Russia Relations after the Cold War, Ms. Gottemoeller will explore key moments of U.S.-Russia cooperation in arms control, outer space, counterterrorism, and nuclear energy. She will consider what made cooperation possible in the past, and what those experiences might reveal about the prospects for nuclear security and diplomacy in today’s increasingly strained U.S.-Russia relationship.

Ms. Stewart explored the evolving global security landscape at a time of intensifying geopolitical competition and rapid technological change. The discussion examined how traditional approaches to deterrence are being challenged by emerging threats, including cyber risks, AI-enabled capabilities, space security concerns, disinformation, and renewed nuclear competition. She also addressed the importance of adapting deterrence strategies to manage these evolving risks, maintain global stability, and prevent conflict in an increasingly complex international environment.

🎤 About the Speaker
Mallory Stewart is the CEO of the Council on Strategic Risks, where she focuses on emerging global security challenges. She previously served as Assistant Secretary for Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability at the U.S. Department of State and as Senior Director for Arms Control, Disarmament, and Nonproliferation at the National Security Council. Her expertise includes nuclear deterrence, arms control, missile defense, outer space security, and emerging technologies.

Join Off The Record for The New Arena of Diplomacy: Sport, Geopolitics, Narrative, and the FIFA World with Dr. Lindsay Krasnoff, Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University’s Tisch Institute for Global Sport and Director of the France and U.S. project.

In the twenty-first century, international sports have become an increasingly powerful arena for diplomacy. Major sporting events bring together nations, athletes, and citizens across cultural and political divides, creating opportunities for dialogue even when traditional diplomatic relations may be limited or difficult. Dr. Krasnoff will explore the intersection of sport, geopolitics, and national narratives, and how global sport can create new avenues for international engagement and cooperation.
