Can an unidentified offstage voice be a compelling character? J. Marshall Evans, Jerome Arthur John and I brought scenes that brought out that question and several others. The scenes and discussions were energized and advanced by actors Patrice Battey-Simon, Renée Connell, Gaynelle Jasper and Demetrius Kee. Thanks to the group for showing up on a sweltering Friday night and bringing the artistic heat!

When a character pursuing a goal abruptly changes tactics, is a transitional phrase helpful or necessary? Jerome Arthur John and Charles White presented scenes at tonight's HP21 workshop which generated that question and several others. Patrice Battey-Simon, Laura Bowman, Renée Connell, Gaynelle Jasper and Demetrius Kee skillfully enacted the scenes and kicked off the discussions. Thanks to the group for the excellent work completed before the start of the Knicks game! Go Knicks!

Does a positive event, which gives the protagonist false hope, enhance or dilute a tragic ending? J. Marshall Evans, Jerome Arthur John, Anthony Key and Charles White wrote scenes which brought up that question and several others at tonight's HP21 workshop. Our actors, Patrice Battey-Simon, Laura Bowman, Renée Connell, Gaynelle Jasper, Demetrius Kee and Stephanie Stephens-Bowen, did yeoman's work in reading the scenes and sharpening the discussions. Kudos to the group for its dedication and consistent efforts to improve our craft!

Should a writer ever manipulate a character's logical decision or organic behavior just to make a political or ideological point? That question and others arose from scripts crafted by Laura Bowman and Charles White. Actors Patrice Battey-Simon, Chauncey Gilbert, Winter-Lee Holland and Gaynelle Jasper did the heavy lifting on the scenes to the great benefit of the writers.
