In Israel, a few thousand young men and women from around the world come to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. Without immediate family in the country to support them during their military service, they are affectionately known as “lone soldiers.”

Chamah helps support these courageous young men and women through programs and activities throughout the year. During Passover, special efforts are made to ensure that lone soldiers are able to celebrate the holiday in a warm and welcoming environment. Chamah co-sponsored a Passover Seder night for lone soldiers, giving them an opportunity to gather together and celebrate the holiday. In addition, Chamah distributed packages of matzot and other Passover treats. ■

At the Chamah Center in Moscow, Passover was celebrated with warmth and togetherness. On the first two nights of the holiday, communal Seder events brought people together to relive the story of freedom and share the traditions of the evening.

Throughout the eight days of the holiday, additional festive meals were prepared, ensuring that everyone could experience the joy and dignity of the season. Special programs and activities were arranged for children and families in the local community, filling the holiday with learning and excitement.

For many beneficiaries who are homebound or were unable to attend the Chamah Center in person, Matzah and other essential Passover foods were delivered directly to their homes, helping them to meaningfully observe the holiday traditions.

In Kishinev, Moldova — on the border with Ukraine — together with Rabbi Belenky of the local Jewish Community, Chamah is providing assistance to the many refugees who have fled the war.

For Passover, special holiday programs were held and food packages were delivered for the refugees, as well as for the local residents and the few hundred Jewish students studying in the city.

As the Passover holiday approached, Israel was under relentless rocket fire and drone attacks. In Kiryat Malachi, Israel, where the Chamah Center operates, alerts and rocket warnings from Iran and Lebanon pierced the air multiple times a day and throughout the night, without pause.

Through it all, our priority was to make sure that those in need could celebrate the Passover holiday with dignity. Many were scared to leave their homes, including isolated elderly individuals. And so we worked tirelessly to ensure that they had all the provisions they needed to observe the Festival of Freedom as fully and normally as possible under the circumstances.

Many hundreds of holiday packages, containing essential food items as well as holiday staples like Matzah and wine, were packed and distributed. In addition, prepaid grocery cards were provided to families, individuals and elderly in need, allowing them to purchase any additional items they needed.

With kids stuck at home due to the war, parents came to pick up holiday activity kits for their children from our day care centers, so the children could enjoy learning about the holiday in a fun and creative way while at home.

The Jewish way is to persevere and to celebrate even under attack. We know that, however fiercely our enemies seek to destroy us, we will remain strong. As it says in the Passover Haggadah: שבכל דור ודור עומדים עלינו לכלותנו — “In every generation, they rise against us to destroy us, but the Holy One, blessed be He, rescues us from their hand.”

Going forward, our work for those in need continues beyond the holiday. The war has shattered businesses, livelihoods, and homes. Many people are unable to reopen their businesses, have lost their source of income, and struggle to meet even the most basic daily needs.

*Every single day, Chamah receives dozens of urgent requests for assistance.*

We remain grateful for your continued support; it is only with the help from our friends and supporters that our vital work continues, and at this critical time, we ask you to please stand with us in supporting those in need in Israel.

Purim is the story of what the Megillah calls “V’nahafoch Hu”—the day everything was turned upside down, from fear to deliverance. As we witness monumental shifts in the Middle East today, we feel a profound sense of relief and gratitude for the removal of a great enemy of Israel and America.

May we merit to see more revealed good, continued protection for our people, and a Purim filled with true joy and gratitude. Wishing you and your family a meaningful and uplifting Purim holiday.

The Chamah Center in Russia hosted a special tribute event honoring retiring staff and volunteers for their decades of devoted service. The program also welcomed new team members stepping forward to carry this mission into the next chapter.

At the heart of Chamah’s mission in Russia is a comprehensive humanitarian effort to sustain and uplift thousands of elderly Jews who face extreme financial hardship and isolation. Through its soup kitchens and Meals-on-Wheels program, Chamah distributes hundreds of thousands of hot, nutritious meals each year and delivers food packages to homebound seniors whose modest pensions do not cover basic necessities.

Chamah also operates day centers where elderly individuals receive medical care, physical rehabilitation, social engagement, and companionship, and provides in-home personal care, medical visits, free medications, and even basic home repairs to help seniors live with dignity and stability.

In many cases, these services are the only consistent support these vulnerable individuals receive, helping them remain connected, nourished, and cared for in their later years.

CHAMAH’s day care centers are designed to support working families by providing dependable childcare for children aged six months to three years, enabling parents to go to work and support their families. The program is fully licensed and staffed by trained professionals, offering a warm, enriching environment where children can grow and thrive.

This expansion is a welcome relief to many working parents who had been on the waiting list, struggling to find stable childcare arrangements. With this new center, they can now head to work with peace of mind, knowing their children are receiving high-quality care in a safe, structured environment.

The new day care center features bright, thoughtfully designed indoor spaces, outdoor play areas, and a bomb shelter, and a daily schedule that fosters learning, creativity, and cultural engagement. Fresh meals are prepared on-site, and children participate in music, crafts, and seasonal activities that include Jewish traditions.

CHAMAH also prioritizes its staff, offering professional development and wellness programs to ensure a consistently high standard of care.

With rising demand from growing young families, along with continued immigration and refugee absorption, all struggling in the wake of two years of war and a weakened economy, CHAMAH continues to expand its impact: strengthening families, supporting working parents, and helping build a stronger future for Israeli society. ■
