Some of the most powerful lessons about caring for our communities begin at home. 💚

For Karin Stein, those lessons came from growing up surrounded by people who looked out for one another and finding connection in nature.

Today, as a mother, gardener, and environmental advocate, she carries those values forward, reminding us that protecting familia also means extending a hand to others.

As we close Hispanic Heritage Month, we're celebrating the stories, traditions, and family values that inspire us to keep showing up for our communities.

Music is more than sound. It’s culture, identity, and a language that brings us together. 🎶❤️

For our Latino communities, familiar rhythms and melodies can create a sense of belonging, build trust, and remind us of the connections we share.

At EcoMadres, we believe that connecting through culture is an important part of building stronger communities. Through music, we celebrate the traditions that bring us together and create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and welcomed.

Environmental justice is an Indigenous rights issue.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the histories, cultures, leadership, and resilience of Indigenous communities while recognizing the ongoing injustices that threaten their lands, waters, health, and ways of life.

From pollution to the impacts of climate change, Indigenous communities continue to face disproportionate environmental burdens. Protecting our environment means respecting Tribal sovereignty, supporting self-determination, and uplifting Indigenous voices and leadership.

For many Latina mothers, extreme heat, air pollution, and concerns about their families' health add to the mental load of everyday life.

Caring for familia can start at home, but it doesn’t have to end there.

Growing up with four siblings, Danielle Berkowitz-Sklar learned early that caring for the people we love also means caring for the world around us.

That lesson continues to shape her today: protecting our environment is part of protecting the health, safety, and future of our communities.

Immigrant communities are already on the front lines of the climate crisis.

Extreme heat, hurricanes, rising seas, and food insecurity don’t happen in isolation. They can compound economic, social, and political challenges, making it increasingly difficult—and sometimes dangerous—for families to remain in the places they call home.

For Indigenous communities and others already facing systemic inequities, these impacts can deepen existing challenges.

Beatriz’s story puts a human face to this reality. Her journey from Nicaragua to the U.S. shows how climate impacts can intersect with other pressures that drive displacement and migration.

As Beatriz asks: “How many more before we act?”

Climate justice must include immigrant justice. That means protecting people displaced by the climate crisis, ensuring immigrant and frontline communities are included in climate solutions, and elevating their voices in the decisions shaping our shared future.

Our communities are not only experiencing the impacts of the climate crisis—we are part of the solutions. Join us in calling for a healthier, safer, and more just future for all.

For Amanda, it all comes back to familia. 💚

Growing up in a Mexican family, she learned to care for what we have, avoid waste, and look out for one another. As a mother, those lessons have taken on even deeper meaning.

Today, that same care fuels her work to protect children from petrochemical and plastic pollution and advocate for healthier communities.

The values we learn at home can shape how we care for the people and places around us—and the future we leave behind.

Our culture is an asset. 💚

For Isabel Gonzalez Whitaker, that lesson started at home. Her mother, an immigrant rights advocate, taught her that caring for others also means helping people see what’s possible for themselves and their communities.

Isabel carries that lesson into her work today—using storytelling, connection, and culture to lift up the voices and experiences of families through Moms Clean Air Force and EcoMadres.
