WE BUILD AND RENOVATE COMMUNITY GARDENS 👀🪴🔄 
 
Since 2010, our crew has completely renovated or built over 300 green spaces across NYC working with partner groups in low-income and/or underserved communities 🤝 We call this our   program 🗽   
  
Our very first   build of this year was at Marie Brooks Community Garden, AKA Marie Brooks Community Garden, in the Morrisannia neighborhood of the Bronx 🌻 Marie Brooks Community Garden reached out to NYRP looking for help to rebuild old raised beds and make other improvement to their garden 👩‍🌾 
  
Our team:   
  
1️⃣ Built 6 raised garden beds and filled them with soil   
  
2️⃣ Planted two Cherry Espalier Trees, three berry shrubs, and 35 perennials 
  
3️⃣ Assembled one trellis 
  
4️⃣ Constructed two benches and one picnic table  
 
5️⃣ Pruned existing trees and shrubs 
 
6️⃣ Spread threw yards of woodchips around the raised beds and seating areas 
  
7️⃣ Removed a dump truck load of trash 
 
We were thrilled to be able to help rejuvenate this community garden that has been serving the Morrisania neighborhood since 1983 🌿 We can’t wait to see it thrive this season!

Join NYRP and .flowers.books for a virtual workshop focused on transforming green spaces into literacy hubs for children’s education 📖 This session, led by Concetta Gleason, a dedicated advocate for children’s literacy and founder of Wilde, Flowers & Books, will provide valuable insights and strategies for transforming community gardens into vibrant, fun outdoor libraries 📕

HERE’S HOW WE TURNED THIS LOT INTO A COMMUNITY GARDEN 👀➡️

Since 2010, our crew has completely renovated or built over 300 green spaces across NYC working with partner groups in low-income and/or underserved communities 🤝 We call this our   program 🗽  
 
One of our first   builds of the year was at 🌻   reached out to NYRP to build this garden because they hold classes teaching teens how to cook and wanted to have a garden where teens could learn how to grow their own food as well 👩‍🌾
 
With the help of volunteers from and , our team:  
 
1️⃣ Built 6 raised garden beds and filled them with soil  
 
2️⃣ Assembled 3 trellises  
 
3️⃣ Constructed four wooden benches and two picnic tables 
 
4️⃣ Created two ornamental planting beds and planted 35 perennials, six shrubs and three fruit trees (two apples and a fig)

5️⃣ Cut back and tidied up the planting strip on the sidewalk

6️⃣ Installed 300 feet of industrial hose to run from building to the garden 
 
7️⃣ Spread 4 yards of wood chips
Our   crew is looking forward to doing some planting with folks at later this month 🌿 We can’t wait to see the garden bloom!

Join our team at to learn the ins and outs of drip irrigation systems in raised garden beds 💧 This hands-on workshop will include an introduction to the basic principles of irrigation and the opportunity for hands-on practice while helping to build out a brand-new drip irrigation system at La Finca del Sur 🪴
