We are deeply saddened by the passing of Duane Michals yesterday, and we join the many people mourning his loss.

Duane was an honorary member of the National Arts Club and a recipient of our Medal of Honor in Photography in 1994. His inventive, deeply personal approach to photography changed the way generations of artists thought about the medium. It was a privilege to know him and to celebrate his work at the club. We had the honor of featuring his work in our landmark 2025 Pride Show. As a cherished part of our community, we will miss him dearly.

It has been an incredible season at the National Arts Club. ❤️

Every exhibition, concert, conversation, and event this year was made meaningful by people like you who believe, as we do, that the arts should be accessible to everyone.

As we close out the 2025–26 season, we're launching something new: the NAC's first-ever end-of-fiscal-year appeal.

Founded in 1898, the National Arts Club remains one of New York City's few spaces offering free public arts programming across disciplines—from our live jazz series with the National Jazz Museum of Harlem to FashionSpeak Fridays and thought-provoking conversations in art, literature, music, architecture, and beyond.

Your support helps make these programs possible. If you've attended an event, discovered a new artist, or found inspiration at the NAC this season, we invite you to make a fully tax-deductible gift and help us continue this work.

Donate through the link below. Thank you for being part of our community, and we can't wait to welcome you back in September! The best is yet to come ✨

Pride Month is a celebration of community, visibility, and belonging🌈

At the National Arts Club, we believe that the arts have the power to bring people together, foster understanding, and create a space where everyone feels welcome. Art thrives when diverse voices are seen and respected. As we continue celebrating Pride throughout June, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a community where all people feel valued and inspired.

Happy Pride from the National Arts Club! 🌈✨

We had the privilege of welcoming the Limón Dance Company to the National Arts Club for an extraordinary evening celebrating the enduring legacy of American modern dance💃

Through powerful performances of excerpts from "Two Ecstatic Themes", "The Moor's Pavane", and "The Quake That Held Them All", audiences experienced works that span generations while continuing to resonate today. The evening was enriched by a fascinating conversation with Artistic Director Dante Puleio, former Limón soloist Daniel Fetecua, Jacob's Pillow Archivist Norton Owen, and Limón principals Joey Columbus and Mariah Gravelin, who offered insight into the history, evolution, and future of this remarkable artistic tradition.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this unforgettable celebration of movement, storytelling, and a living legacy that continues to inspire audiences around the world!

Congratulations to National Arts Club member Kent Monkman on his upcoming exhibition, "Kent Monkman: Officer and Laughing Girl," opening this fall at The Frick Collection.

Known for his incisive reexaminations of history through Indigenous perspectives, Monkman will present a new series of paintings inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s Officer and Laughing Girl. Through his celebrated, gender-fluid alter ego, Miss Chief, Monkman brings humor, imagination, and critique to questions of colonization, cultural exchange, and the enduring impact of global histories.

We are thrilled to celebrate this exciting milestone and look forward to seeing Kent’s work in conversation with one of the Frick’s most treasured masterpieces.

Tonight, we celebrate and kick off pride month with , honoring the life and career of photographer Sheyla Baykal! 🌈🌈

Baykal inhabited New York’s East Village when it was a crucible of experimentation and resilience. From the 1960s through the 1990s, she recorded the lives and interconnections of a generation in motion. Her portraits reinforced networks, affirmed collective identity, and chronicled communities navigating gentrification and the devastation of the AIDS crisis. Her images are acts of witness, bearing testimony to lives, relationships, and cultural moments that might otherwise have been forgotten. This year marks the 30th anniversary of her inclusion in the Contemporary Arts Annual, curated by Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt at The National Arts Club—a milestone underscoring the lasting cultural significance of her photographic record.

Since January 2025, the Baykal Archive has been Archive-in-Residence at Soft Network, a Downtown Manhattan arts nonprofit dedicated to collaborative stewardship of artists’ legacies. Her work continues to testify to a living artistic lineage, sustaining intergenerational dialogue and demonstrating how archives animate and preserve community memory.
