Abundant Housing L.A. LA's pro-housing voice. Building the movement to end the housing shortage and house all Angelenos. Welcome to the AHLA Forum! Excited to have you join us!

This page and discussion group are intended to be a place for AHLA members to further the mission of AHLA through collaboration, support, and brainstorming. The page is a respectful, civil, open, and welcoming environment. Abundant Housing LA is the pro-housing (or YIMBY) group for LA County. We’re a volunteer-led nonprofit that is dedicated to making LA a more affordable place to live. We want there to be enough homes for all Angelenos. We want to be able to afford our rent, we want our kids to be able to stay here, and we want Southern California to be diverse and vibrant. This page is where members and people interested in AHLA come together to talk online, coordinate on education and advocacy campaigns, talk policy, plan events, and get to know each other. CODE OF CONDUCT - please read! What is not Allowed
• Sharing or publicizing the contents of the AHLA page. Discussion here is not intended to be shared outside of the page. However, please assume that anything you write may become public at any time, and behave in a professional and respectful manner that will represent AHLA appropriately.
• Promoting an item that you have a financial interest in without first receiving approval from moderators.
• Bad faith usage of the Page. AHLA is a pro-housing organization committed to advocating for more housing. Posters are expected to use the Page to engage in good faith discussion that furthers AHLA’s mission. Members whose behavior goes against the purpose and mission of AHLA may be removed.
• Threats of violence. You may not threaten violence towards others or use the site to organize, promote, or incite acts of real-world violence or terrorism. Think carefully about the words you use, the images you post, and even the software you write, and how they may be interpreted by others. Even if you mean something as a joke, it might not be received that way. If you think that someone else might interpret the content you post as a threat, or as promoting violence or terrorism, stop. Don’t post it. In extraordinary cases, we may report threats of violence to law enforcement if we think there may be a genuine risk of physical harm or a threat to public safety.
• Hate speech and discrimination. While it is not forbidden to broach topics such as age, body size, ability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation, we do not tolerate speech that attacks a person or group of people on the basis of who they are. Just realize that talking about these or other sensitive topics can make others feel unwelcome, or perhaps even unsafe, if approached in an aggressive or insulting manner. We expect our Community members to be respectful when discussing sensitive topics.
• Bullying and harassment. We do not tolerate bullying or harassment. This means any habitual badgering or intimidation targeted at a specific person or group of people. In general, if your actions are unwanted and you continue to engage in them, there’s a good chance you are headed into bullying or harassment territory.
• Impersonation. You may not impersonate another person by copying their avatar, posting content under their email address, intentionally using a deceptively similar username or otherwise posing as someone else. Impersonation is a form of harassment.
• Doxxing and invasion of privacy. Don’t post other people’s personal information, such as phone numbers, private email addresses, physical addresses, credit card numbers, Social Security/National Identity numbers, or passwords. Depending on the context, such as in the case of intimidation or harassment, we may consider other information, such as photos or videos that were taken or distributed without the subject’s consent, to be an invasion of privacy, especially when such material presents a safety risk to the subject.
• Prurient/Sexually explicit content. Basically, don’t post pornography.
• Spam. Don’t post advertisements, link to spammy websites, or otherwise vandalize the Community.
• Active malware or exploits
The Managing Director and designated moderators have the authority to remove posts and posters at their discretion. Actions that may be taken in response to a violation of this code of conduct include, but are not limited to:
• Content Removal
• Content Blocking

Powering Up LA was a huge success! 🔌🏠
Degen Shaw had this amazing idea for an event so big props to you, Degen!

Utility grid queue delays are one of the quietest—and most expensive—bottlenecks in Los Angeles’ housing crisis. Completed apartment buildings sit empty for months just waiting to plug in.

A huge thank you to our incredible speakers:
🎙️ Scott Epstein – Moderator
🏢 Dave Rand (Rand Paster Nelson)
📐 Brian Wickersham (AUX Architecture )

Thank you to everyone who joined the room, asked sharp questions, and connected during networking! 🍕✨

Ever wondered why new housing in LA can sit fully built for months before anyone can actually move in?

🔌🏠
Too often, the culprit is utility delays. Getting power hooked up can stall project timelines, balloon carrying costs, and keep much-needed homes off the market.
With LADWP’s recent announcement of new Executive Directive 19 (ED 19) protocols—including pre-engineered design templates and updated staging rules—there’s real hope for a faster, more predictable process. But will these changes deliver on the ground?
We’re bringing together experts across law, architecture, and advocacy to stress-test ED 19 and unpack what it means for LA’s housing pipeline.

Meet our panel lineup:
🎙️ Scott Epstein (Moderator, Abundant Housing LA)
🏗️ Dave Rand (Partner, Rand Paster Nelson)
📐 Brian Wickersham (Founding Partner, AUX Architecture)
🏛️ Jesse Zwick (Housing Action Coalition)

Join us to learn how these new rules work, how grid delays impact project math, and what accountability metrics we need to track to keep housing moving forward.

Our Housing 102 Skill Labs are here! 🎉 First up: Decoding the Sacramento Pipeline.
What does that even mean? 😭

Our Education & Events Director, Joshua Gonzales, will show you exactly how a housing bill is birthed, survives the awkward teenage phase of Policy Committees, and grows up to impact LA zoning.

You’ll learn to use LegInfo (Sacramento’s clunky 1998 database) to track votes and spot the “Suspense File”—the fiscal graveyard where politicians quietly kill bills.

💻 Open your laptop and navigate state politics like a pro.

In 2016, a small group of volunteers came together to show Los Angeles and our elected officials that our communities want more housing and more affordability. Since then, Abundant Housing LA, and our pro-housing movement, have grown immensely. We have co-sponsored impactful state legislation like SB 79. We've worked with local elected leaders all over the County to pass pro-housing reforms, and have helped elect dozens of pro-housing candidates. On October 15th, we invite you to join us in celebrating 10 years of building pro-housing power, 10 years of creating community, and 10 years of fighting for a more affordable LA. Toast with us to the last decade of our movement's growth and impact, and to the next decade of creating an even stronger movement to build more housing and more affordability.
