This mobile clinic would be geared to support special needs kids with various therapy needs. By using mats, tunnels, and other toys on board the bus we will be able to help kids by providing much needed access to therapy.

Our goal is to make it increasingly possible that every child with special needs in the Caribbean has a bright future with consistent access to support they need.

Our vision is to create a school bus outfitted to bring therapy to wherever the child is, therefore increasing access to much needed services.

Our team is currently talking with two different universities about partnering with us to send a group of students as part of our Fellowship Program.

This program would allow a group of students studying Occupational Therapy the opportunity to practice their skills and gain experience helping students in Jamaica.

Students gain experience and expertise while special needs children are getting access to the care them need.

Next week our Founder + President, Joanne Oates, will be one of the featured speakers at the MICO Care Center's Parent Coaching Workshop!

The theme of the workshop is Bridging the Gap: A Practical Approach to Developing Support Strategies.

Joanne will be presenting on understanding and correcting handwriting challenges. This presentation aims to equip classroom teachers with the knowledge and strategies to address handwriting challenges in children. It covers the importance of handwriting in academic success, common difficulties, and contributing factors such as fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, and environmental influences.

In September, we hosted our first meeting with our future potential ECHO Jamaica hub team!

From this initial meeting we learned that one of biggest challenges is going to be scheduling, yet we know this is a passionate team that will make it happen.

It will be essential that we connect with general practitioners across the island so that we can reach our target families. Many families with choose a GP instead of a pediatrician, for example, because it is far more affordable. If a family with special needs child is making that choice, we need them to know about our service!

We left our meeting inspired by the enthusiasm of the doctors and nurses present, and also see that their is still work to be done to get the ECHO Autism Jamaica program serving children and families the way we envision.

Access to quality education is a fundamental right for every child, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. In Jamaica, the push for inclusivity in schools has seen significant progress, particularly with the inclusion of Occupational Therapy (OT) services. These services are essential in helping children with various challenges—whether physical, cognitive, or sensory—thrive in the educational environment. However, equal access to these services remains a topic of critical importance.

By increasing awareness, expanding resources, and ensuring the full implementation of the law, we can ensure that every child in Jamaica has the opportunity to receive the education they deserve, with the support they need to thrive.
