The brilliant hit the nail on the head. 🔨

Humor has a way of revealing hard truths. This standup bit on the mental load of motherhood — from knowing when your baby was born to remembering the diaper bag — captures something we see in the data: moms do more, and it goes unrecognized.

We’re laughing — and then we’re fighting to change the status quo. Follow to join the movement.

When moms shared their stories with us, one theme kept coming up again and again: pumping.

Different jobs. Different states. Different bosses. Same story.

There’s a federal law now: the PUMP Act requires most employers to provide break time and a private, non-bathroom space. That’s real progress.

But a pumping room isn’t paid leave. If moms had the time they needed at home, they wouldn’t be scheduling their bodies around back-to-back meetings.

It’s past time for the system to catch up.

America keeps asking: why aren’t women having more children?

Almost no one asks: why have we made having a child so dangerous?

More than 2.3 million women of childbearing age live in maternity care deserts. Hospitals are cutting labor & delivery units. And in the South, Black mothers are dying at devastating rates from causes we know how to prevent.

We actually know how to fix this. Some states already are. Swipe to see the full picture. 👉

Niecy Nash showed up at the Moms First x Marie Claire celebration to remind us that motherhood is not perfect, but it’s power.

She built an iconic Hollywood career, found love in her own way, and raised kids who accepted every part of her.

Now that’s a power mom. 💪

We asked the kids of Moms First what their moms do for work. The answers did not disappoint. 🥹

Happy Mother’s Day from the moms and mom allies of Moms First. 💌

This Last Week Tonight segment aired on Mother’s Day, 2015...eleven years ago. Since then, we still don’t have a federal paid leave policy, women’s rights are under attack, and child care costs are through the roof.

But change is happening: 14 states and D.C. now have statewide paid family leave, and more moms are organizing and demanding better.

Moms can’t wait another decade. It’s time to make care policies a priority—and fight for a system that actually supports mothers.

👀 Tag your elected officials in the comments to let them know: moms (and all parents) need paid leave now.

For too long, motherhood in America has been a story told about us. “Trad wives” vs. “girlbosses.” Stay-at-home vs. working moms. Winners vs. failures.

But the truth is bigger than any culture war: the system was never built for mothers in the first place.

This is no country for mothers.

Our documentary is our investigation into how we got here — and what it will take to build a country that finally works for us. The trailer is here. And this movement is just getting started.

Nurses are holding this country together — literally. The care sector is the fastest-growing part of our economy, and an estimated 40% of working moms work in healthcare. But for nurse moms, childcare is often expensive, hard to find, and nearly impossible to schedule around 12-hour shifts, overnight rotations, and irregular hours.

We need to make it easier for nurses to show up for us and their families, not harder for them to show up at all.

Our Foundational Workers Report with analysis by McKinsey & Company breaks down what it actually costs when we fail the people doing this work. Link in bio to read it. 🔗
