Side Event: Building Equitable Pathways to 2030 and Beyond: Advancing Climate-Resilience through the lens of the Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment
As climate-related risks intensify, they are not only environmental challenges.
They are human rights challenges.
They affect access to safe water and sanitation, sustainable energy, resilient infrastructure, and inclusive cities — often with the greatest impact on people and communities already facing vulnerability, exclusion or discrimination. Climate-resilient development must therefore be grounded in participation, equality and non-discrimination, transparency, and accountability.
At this year’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development ( ), the Danish Institute for Human Rights is pleased to co-host a side event on how the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment can guide more equitable and climate-resilient development – towards 2030 and beyond.
The discussion will bring together governments, UN actors, National Human Rights Institutions, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities and data experts to explore how human rights-based governance, inclusive data and multi-stakeholder partnerships can support practical solutions across water, energy, infrastructure and urban development.
The conversation will also be about what comes next. As the international community looks towards the final years of the 2030 Agenda — and begins to consider the development agenda beyond 2030 — human rights must remain at the centre.
