Our work analyzes capitalism critically as a systemic problem and advocates for democratizing workplaces as part of a systemic solution. We seek a stronger, fuller democracy – in our politics and culture as well as in our economy - based on workers’ equal collaboration and shared leadership inside enterprises and throughout society.

Google Maps no longer accepts reviews for nearly every ICE detention facility in the country. The company did not announce the change. It did not respond to appeals. It just turned reviews off. Muira McCammon, a Tulane University professor who spent the past year archiving what those reviews contained, documented exactly what was erased: 1,636 posts from twenty-six facilities collected in August 2025, written by former detainees, family members, and people who wanted the public to know what happens inside America’s immigration jails. By the time her study appeared last month in New Media and Society, only four facilities still accepted reviews. The rest of the testimony was gone.

“Europe & The United States: Crossroads Then and Now”

By the end of World War 2 in Europe, that continent’s extremely violent self-destruction had killed tens of millions and wrecked many economies. Its politically dominant employer classes had driven their national governments to a clash that had produced those results. By 1945 the war’s outcome had proved far worse than many in those classes had imagined or wanted before the war. Europeans had struggled after 1917/1918 to overcome their self-destruction in World War 1. In the short span between the end of the First and the beginning of the Second World War, Europe destabilized itself via its reparations program, Germany’s staggering inflation, and then global capitalism’s worst ever collapse in 1929. The consequences of those destabilizations ramified across Europe and undermined the League of Nations effort to prevent a second world war.

“To be or not to be?: Austerity vs. Socialism by

Mayor Zohran Mamdani proposed several measures last week intended to reconcile New York’s $5.4 billion budget shortfall, or to use the mayor’s preferred phrase, the Adams Budget Crisis. Mamdani detailed how the former mayor systematically understated the operating costs of key city departments, ballooning New York’s budget deficit. To address this massive funding shortfall, Mamdani has called for New York Governor Kathy Hochul to enact a two percent income tax increase on New Yorkers making over one million dollars a year. Should this measure fail to pass, Mamdani’s backup plan would constitute a 9.5% increase in property taxes, while the city “would also take $980 million from its Rainy Day Fund and $229 million from the Retiree Health Benefits Trust.” So far, Governor Hochul has roundly rejected calls for an income tax increase on the wealthiest New Yorkers.

As a 23-year-old economics graduate student, I have attempted to examine the society I find myself in and its constant crises. I write this article from the perspective of a Gen-Z individual who has grown up during a turbulent period in US politics. Additionally, this article serves as a Gen-Z perspective to my professor Richard Wolff’s recent article, “Trump, Politics and a Declining US Capitalism in 2026”. In this article Professor Wolff sketches a timeline of American politics,the decline of US capitalism, the rise of MAGA and the resurgence of Socialism ushered in by the Bernie Sanders’ led progressive wing of the Democratic Party.”.
