Today, on National Children's Day, we celebrate the potential of every child and the importance of creating opportunities for them to thrive.

More than 1 million children call Louisiana home, and each of them deserve high-quality care and education.

While new data from LDOE shows fantastic progress in literacy and numeracy, and we were thrilled to see funding for early learning preserved in the state budget, there is still work to be done.

According to LPIC, there are 114,000 in-need children without access to high-quality early care and education programs in our state.

In fact, Head Start and Early Head Start programs serve only 6.6% of eligible children below age 3 and 46% of eligible 3- and 4-year-olds in Louisiana. Learn more: https://policyinstitutela.org/early-childhood/state-of-early-care-and-education/

At Ellevate Louisiana, we understand that strong communities rely on supporting children, families, and educational opportunity. There is no greater investment we can make in our future.

We had a wonderful time at Women's Public Leadership Network's (WPLN) National Summit in Philadelphia, celebrating 250 years of women's leadership in America!

WPLN's mission is to educate, organize, and inspire women to seek public office and become effective leaders. As a policy organization dedicated to uplifting women's voices and bridging divides in Louisiana, Ellevate is thrilled to support their work and learn from the women leading their communities to a better, more equal future.

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of cancer survivors while recognizing the work that remains to reduce the burden of cancer in Louisiana.

Louisiana continues to face some of the highest cancer incidence and mortality rates in the nation. According to CDC and National Cancer Institute data, our state's cancer incidence rate is 489.2 cases per 100,000 people, compared to the national rate of 448.6. Louisiana's cancer mortality rate is 165.1 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to 145.4 nationally, with Black Louisianans experiencing disproportionately high mortality rates.

These statistics underscore the importance of expanding access to prevention, early detection, screening, and timely treatment. Early intervention saves lives.

This legislative session, we were encouraged to see lawmakers pass measures aimed at improving access to prostate and colorectal cancer screenings, alongside other cancer-related policies designed to help patients receive the care they need.

Today, we honor survivors, remember those we have lost, and recommit ourselves to advancing policies that improve outcomes for all Louisianans impacted by cancer.

Today is National Higher Education Day!

Higher education remains one of Louisiana’s most important tools for developing talent, strengthening our workforce, and expanding opportunity.

During the 2026 Legislative Session, lawmakers advanced a variety of higher education policies focused on workforce development, dual enrollment, affordability, institutional governance, and student success. From expanding career and technical education pathways to evaluating the effectiveness of major scholarship programs, this year’s legislation reflected ongoing efforts to better align education with Louisiana’s workforce and economic needs.

Last Friday, members of Ellevate Louisiana had the opportunity to attend the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's Women's Business Symposium, a day dedicated to leadership, entrepreneurship, professional growth, and the power of women supporting women.

We were honored to join an inspiring group of leaders from across Louisiana for thoughtful conversations about advancing women in business, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders. We were especially proud to see our own Julie Stokes participate in the panel discussion, Women Who Move Systems: Power, Policy & Purpose, sharing insights on leadership, public policy, and civic engagement.

At Ellevate Louisiana, we know that meaningful change happens when women from diverse backgrounds, industries, and perspectives come together to learn from one another and build stronger networks. We are grateful to our partners at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana for bringing together such an impactful event and for their continued commitment to empowering women across our state.

Thank you to everyone who made this year's Women's Business Symposium a success!
