There were 12 major violent incidents reported in New Orleans from April 27th through May 3rd
Six (6) of the 12 major violent crimes occurred in the 7th District (New Orleans East) where there was 1 homicide victim, 1 nonfatal shooting, 1 carjacking, and 3 armed robberies.
Notably, there were 4 major violent incidents reported in the Pines Village neighborhood of the 7th District.
No major violent crimes were reported in the 2nd District (Uptown/Carrollton) or 8th District (French Quarter/Downtown).

The Louisiana Supreme Court set a cap of $425/day for a 7 day maximum on lodging for judges while they attended state-mandated continuing education courses. The investigation by FOX8 found that some judges went over that cap in the recent years and have now reimbursed the court citing a clerical error.

as of April 26, 2026. There were 7 reported major violent incidents last week, including 2 homicides (1 by stabbing and 1 by shooting), 2 nonfatal shootings, and 3 armed robberies. There were no reported major violent incidents in the 3rd District (Lakeview/Gentilly), 4th District (Algiers), or 7th District (New Orleans East). In 2026, there have been a total of 81 shooting incidents (23 fatal, 58 nonfatal), an increase of +4% YTD compared with the 78 reported in 2025 (17 fatal, 61 nonfatal) shooting incidents.

as of April 19, 2026: From April 13-19, 2026, there were 14 reported major violent incidents. Reported incidents included 1 homicide by blunt force trauma, 5 nonfatal shootings, 1 carjacking, and 7 armed robberies. Five incidents occurred in the 7th District (New Orleans East/Pines Village) accounting for over one-third (36%) of reported violent crimes last week. The 1st District (Treme/Mid-City) was the only NOPD District with no major violent incident reports.

The 4-3 council vote yesterday approved the New Orleans Police Department’s purchase of the $250,000 drone and docking station. According to Michelle Courseault, executive director of the French Quarter Management District, the drone will be launched within the next six months.

After 4 consecutive weeks with 10+ reported violent incidents, from April 6-12, 2026, reported violent crime declined to 8 reported major violent weekly incidents. Last week’s incidents included 1 homicide by shooting, 2 nonfatal shootings, 1 carjacking, and 4 armed robberies. No reported major crimes occurred in the 4th District (Algiers), 6th District (Central City/Irish Channel), or 8th District (French Quarter/Downtown).

as of April 5, 2026: There were 17 reported major violent crime incidents from March 30-April 5, including 2 homicides, 8 nonfatal shootings, and 7 armed robberies.

There were 0 reported carjacking incidents last week, and carjackings have declined -6% compared to 2025 and -84% compared to 2022.
Every police district had at least 1 major violent crime. The 8th District (French Quarter, Central Business District) recorded the highest number of incidents, with 2 armed robberies and 2 nonfatal shootings.
