Adam Christoferson and Musical Intervention

Adam Christoferson is the visionary founder of Musical Intervention (TM), a groundbreaking program that leverages the transformative power of music to bring diverse communities together, empower individuals, and foster healing and creativity. Musical Intervention provides a safe, inclusive space where people from all walks of life—regardless of socioe

conomic status—can come together to create original songs, lend a hand and a chord, and enrich each other's lives. Through songwriting, professional recording, and live performance, participants are not only given an outlet for self-expression but are also equipped with skills that extend to every area of life and work. The program serves a broad range of populations, including the homeless, at-risk youth, veterans, individuals in recovery from substance abuse, and adults with mental illness. By connecting people who might not otherwise cross paths, Musical Intervention fosters mutual support, understanding, and a sense of belonging within a diverse community. Adam’s program is rooted in his background in Recreation Therapy and his passion for the unifying power of music. His work has touched countless lives through partnerships with organizations such as Yale New Haven Child Psychiatric Inpatient Hospital, New Haven public schools, Southern Connecticut State University, and Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. His efforts have also reached international audiences, including keynote appearances at the European Conference on Mental Health** and the World Congress of Adolescence and Child Psychiatry in Beijing, China. He has also shared his insights and vision as a TEDx speaker and as the keynote speaker for the **Yale Donald J. Musical Intervention has also been recognized for its innovative contributions to mental health research. In partnership with the Belief Lab at Yale University, the program received grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study its impact on reducing distress for individuals experiencing auditory hallucinations. This collaboration highlights the therapeutic potential of music in addressing complex mental health challenges and further validates the program’s effectiveness. The need for spaces like Musical Intervention is greater than ever, as communities face growing divides and individuals struggle with isolation and adversity. This program provides an accessible, welcoming environment where people can transcend barriers, share their stories, and connect through music. By offering tools like songwriting, audio-visual recording, and live performance, Musical Intervention equips participants with skills and confidence to overcome challenges and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Musical Intervention has received prestigious grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Arts Council of Greater New Haven for its work in community enrichment. Adam’s efforts have been celebrated in academic symposiums, performing arts venues, and public access radio, demonstrating the program’s impact on both local and global stages. Through Musical Intervention, Adam Christoferson continues to champion the belief that music has the power to heal, connect, and uplift people from all walks of life, building stronger, more compassionate communities one song at a time.

We celebrate divergency and all of its excellence. You can’t have diversity without it. Many people need the space to continue exercising their unique talents and social skills.
Meet Clara, our resident Guitar tech. They are multi talented and improving each day. Thanks to a welcoming environment and lots of compassionate and professional musicians, they can thrive and hone their skills for the music world.

This is what healing can look like. We honor and celebrate people’s unique gifts and provide the platform regardless of their ability to afford access to music programming.

Not perfect. Not polished. Just real people finding their voice through music.

At Musical Intervention, we are open to the public especially to individuals navigating mental health and recovery, giving them a space to create, connect, and be heard.

Today is The Great Give, and this work only happens because people choose to support it.

If this resonates with you, consider making a donation or sharing this with someone who would.
