Women Rock the Future Hike had a beautiful day on Saturday to build community, learn about projects supporting women and girls, and raise funds to grow critical projects. About 40 people came out to hike to the top of East Rock.

Climate change....Women Rock the Future: Women are responsible for half of the world’s food production. In developing countries, they produce even up to 80 per cent of food. As farmers, women have learned how to cope with and adapt to climate change, for example, by practicing sustainable agriculture in harmony with nature, switching to drought-resistant seeds, employing low-impact or organic soil management techniques, or leading community-based reforestation and restoration efforts.

Connecticut voted for the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote, on September 14, 1920. That same day, the state lost one of its most ardent and least recognized suffragists, Augusta Lewis Troup. Help grow leadership of women and girls. Join the Women Rock the Future Hike. 🌱SEEDS OF CHANGE

Across the world, women have long been at the heart of efforts to protect the land, preserve knowledge, and strengthen their communities.

Vandana Shiva, an Indian scholar and environmental advocate, has dedicated decades to promoting biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and the important role of farmers and local communities in shaping our food systems.

Her work reminds us that a garden can be much more than a place to grow food. It can also be a source of knowledge, resilience, and greater economic security for families.

As part of the history of the New Haven/León partnership, women in Goyena and Troilo took a leading role in family garden initiatives. By growing food in their patios, and sharing their agricultural knowledge, they helped strengthen their families’ food security and reduce pressure on household budgets.

Different countries, but a shared truth: when women cultivate seeds and knowledge, entire communities grow stronger.

On September 26, we will hike in recognition of women whose dedication to the land, education, and community has helped build a better future.

🌱 SEMILLAS DE CAMBIO

En distintas partes del mundo, las mujeres han estado en el corazón de los esfuerzos por proteger la tierra, preservar conocimientos y fortalecer sus comunidades.

Vandana Shiva, académica y defensora del medioambiente de la India, ha dedicado décadas a promover la biodiversidad, la agricultura sostenible y el importante papel de los agricultores y las comunidades locales en nuestros sistemas alimentarios.

Su trabajo nos recuerda que un huerto puede ser mucho más que un lugar donde cultivar alimentos. También puede convertirse en una fuente de conocimientos, de resiliencia y de mayor seguridad económica para las familias.

Como parte de la historia de la hermandad entre New Haven y León, las mujeres de Goyena y Troilo asumieron un papel central en iniciativas de huertos familiares. Al cultivar alimentos en sus patios, y compartir sus conocimientos agrícolas, contribuyen a fortalecer la seguridad alimentaria de sus familias y a reducir la presión sobre la economía familiar.

Países diferentes, pero una verdad compartida: cuando las mujeres cultivan semillas y conocimientos, comunidades enteras se fortalecen.

Este 26 de septiembre caminaremos en reconocimiento a las mujeres cuya dedicación a la tierra, la educación y la comunidad ha contribuido a construir un futuro mejor.
