With the end of another semester comes another exciting period for YHHAP: Spring 2022 board elections! As of today, applications to join the YHHAP Board are officially open. All class years are encouraged to apply, regardless of previous YHHAP affiliation. Open positions include Co-Director, Advocacy Co-Chair, Communications Chair, Outreach Chair, and Fundraising Chair. Applications are due on Monday, May 2nd, by midnight, and shouldn't take more than 15-20 min. Are you interested in helping unhoused people in New Haven with their direct needs? Sign up for the YHHAP mutual aid circle!

We're a group that gives monthly contributions directly to the New Haven Housing Fund: a mutual aid organization that connects people on the street to supplies & support in the New Haven community. This approach allows our neighbors to voice what they need directly, and allows us to provide support without the same restrictions that a nonprofit might face. This approach challenges existing power structures by creating community relationships, reciprocal aid between neighbors. and long-term networks of support. Be a part of that change for your neighbors in New Haven.

When you sign up, you will receive a monthly report on the supplies and needs that your contribution provided for. During the last week of every month, we will send out Venmo requests, and the total will be distributed to the New Haven Housing Fund once all donations are in. YHHAP Fast is open for sign-ups!

The largest student-run fundraiser on Yale’s campus, the YHHAP Fast is a semesterly effort to support organizations that address housing and food insecurity in New Haven, from soup kitchens to emergency shelters to advocacy groups.

This semester, the Fast is benefitting four New Haven nonprofits doing critical on-the-ground work to alleviate these issues, as well as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic: Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, New Haven Housing Fund, Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, and the Tiny House Project. As part of our Food Drive this year, we're also collecting menstrual hygiene products to help alleviate period poverty! Every residential college has a bin where students, on and off campus, can donate both opened and unopened packets of period products. While you're packing up your living spaces, please consider donating any leftovers to people in need! The bins are available for donations until May 20th.
