Labor Day Closure Reminder

The Eastern Carolina YMCA will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

We’re grateful for the hardworking people who help make our communities across Eastern North Carolina such a special place to call home.

We hope you enjoy a safe and restful Labor Day with family, friends and neighbors. 💙

WE NEED YOU! 👈 And more importantly, families in our community need you.

Every weekday, parents across Craven and Pamlico counties head to work knowing their children have a safe, caring place to spend the day or afternoon. For many families, the YMCA Early Learning Center at Little Hands and our After School Programs are not simply convenient. They are part of what makes work, school and everyday family life possible.

And the people who make that happen? Our staff. 💙

Right now, we’re looking for the right people to join our team. People who genuinely enjoy working with children. People who can be silly, patient, dependable and encouraging. People who want to go home at the end of the day knowing their work mattered to a child and their family.

We’re looking for:
⭐ After School Site Directors | Havelock & New Bern
⭐ After School Counselors | Havelock & New Bern
🚌 Afternoon Bus Driver | New Bern
🍳 Cook | Early Learning Center, a couple days a week
🍎 Assistant Teacher | Early Learning Center
💤 Floater & Nap Time Teachers | Early Learning Center
🌟 Lead Teacher | Early Learning Center, Full-Time

Maybe you’re looking for your first job working with kids. Maybe you’re retired and still have a lot to give. Maybe you’re an experienced educator looking for something new. Or maybe you know someone who would be really good at this.

We need good people, and we need them right now.

Come be one of the people local kids look forward to seeing every day. Come help us be there for the families who count on the Y. 💙

💙 FEEL GOOD FRIDAY: Community goodness was everywhere this week!

Some weeks give you a little extra reminder of what community looks like. This was one of those weeks.

🧷 3,288 diapers. That’s a lot of dry, happy babies!

On Tuesday, Emma Barnes, Executive Director of the Eastern Pregnancy Information Clinic (EPIC), picked up the final haul from our EPIC Diaper Drive. Thanks to the generosity of our Y community, 3,288 diapers are headed to local families who can put them to good use.

To every person who dropped off a pack or helped spread the word, thank you. This is what neighbors caring for neighbors looks like. 💙

🧹 Then Thursday brought a whole lot of “UNITY” to our community!

Thirteen students from The Epiphany School of Global Studies spent part of their day volunteering at the Y. These thoughtful young leaders jumped right in, picking up trash and debris around our campus, pulling grass and weeds from flower beds, sweeping the pavilion, giving our CPR mannequins a much-needed scrub and folding YMCA shirts.

After a busy summer camp season, there was plenty to do, and these students helped us get our spaces ready for all that a new season at the Y will bring. Huge thank you to The Epiphany School of Global Studies!

From diapers for local families to young people giving their time to serve, this week was a pretty great picture of what happens when people show up for one another.

That’s community. And that feels pretty good on a Friday. 💙

🏈 Friday Night Lights + Hometown Pride + the Y!

There’s just something about high school football season in Eastern North Carolina. The stands fill up, the band gets going, neighbors catch up, and our communities come together to cheer on the young people representing their schools.

We think that hometown spirit deserves some celebration. 💙

This Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, wear your local high school fan gear to the Twin Rivers YMCA and we’ll waive your joining fee. Shirts, hats, jerseys and other fan gear all count!

Coming straight from Friday night’s game? Bring your ticket stub or a screenshot of your e-ticket instead.

Whether you’re cheering from the stands or supporting a team from home, come show us who you’re rooting for. Because around here, different schools may compete under the lights, but we’re all part of the same Eastern North Carolina community.

🏈 Show your school pride.
💙 Find your place at the Y.
🙌 Celebrate the community we call home.

Offer available August 21-22 only. Joining fee waived with local high school fan gear or qualifying game ticket/ticket screenshot.

⚽🏈Some of the best lessons in youth sports happen between the plays.

It’s learning to listen to a coach. Encouraging a teammate who’s having a rough game. Trying again after missing the goal or dropping the ball. And, somewhere along the way, making a few new friends.

That’s a big part of why youth sports matter at the Y. Kids get to be active and learn the game, but they’re also practicing confidence, teamwork, respect and responsibility. Those are things that stick with them long after the season ends.

Fall NFL Flag Football and Soccer are coming up at the Twin Rivers YMCA, with options for kids from age 3 through middle school.

Registration is open through August 31. Details are at ecymca.org/sports.

🌎💙 International Youth Day | August 12

Young people have been at the heart of the Y since the very beginning.

When George Williams founded the first YMCA in London in 1844, he wanted to create a place where young people could find support, connection and opportunity during a time of enormous social change. Over the generations, that commitment grew through education, recreation, summer camps, swimming, leadership opportunities and so much more.

More than 180 years later, Youth Development remains at the heart of who we are.

Here at the Eastern Carolina YMCA, that mission happens close to home.

It looks like a child discovering they can swim across the pool on their own. 🏊

It’s a young athlete learning how to be a good teammate on the soccer field or flag football field. ⚽🏈

It’s a family knowing their child has a safe, caring place to spend the afternoon while they finish the workday. 🎒

And it’s young people building friendships, confidence and a sense that they belong.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate the young people who bring so much energy, curiosity and possibility to our communities. We’re proud to be in their corner as they discover what they can do and who they can become.

💙 There are plenty of ways for young people to find their place at the Y this season:

🏈 Youth Flag Football
⚽ Youth Soccer
🎒 After School Program
📚 Home School Program
🏊 Swim Lessons
🏊‍♀️ Swim Team

Come discover what’s waiting at the Y.
