Last Friday, we had the joy of celebrating the ribbon cutting for Wild Indigo Flower Farm – and we’re so excited to see this vision officially come to life.

In March, our Board of Directors awarded $40,000 to Family Ark to help launch Wild Indigo, a mission-aligned social enterprise on its 76-acre campus in Jeffersonville.

The idea behind the project was to create a beautiful place for the community to experience nature while generating sustainable revenue for Family Ark through U-Pick experiences, bouquet sales, and community events. It would also help create workforce opportunities for individuals connected to Family Ark’s programs.

So, yes… you can stop and smell the flowers. And when you do, you’ll also be supporting an organization helping children and families heal and grow.

Wild Indigo is offering tours and has upcoming U-Pick dates, with tickets starting at $30. Bring the family, enjoy the campus, cut your own seasonal blooms and take home a little piece of the beauty.

Congratulations, Family Ark! We’re proud to have played a part in helping this idea take root.

We’re excited to welcome Nick Oakes to the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s Board of Directors!

Nick is a Financial Planner and Advisor with Edward Jones and a graduate of Floyd Central High School and Indiana University. He and his wife, Jessica, live in Greenville with their three daughters and their two dogs. With three kids involved in everything from wrestling and swimming to dance, tumbling, cheer and running, there’s rarely a dull moment at the Oakes household.

When he finds some downtime, Nick enjoys running, coaching wrestling, golfing, traveling and spending time outdoors. His ideal vacation is a beach, somewhere out of the country, all-inclusive – and no more than five days. His bucket list also includes building a barndominium, so we’ll be interested to see which dream comes first!

Nick joined the CFSI board because he sees the Foundation as a powerful way to help individuals achieve their philanthropic goals while connecting local nonprofits and programs with the resources they need to strengthen our community.

We’re thrilled to have Nick bringing his experience, perspective and passion for our community to CFSI. Please help us welcome him to the board!

We’re excited to welcome Rebecca Bennett Howard to the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s Board of Directors!

Rebecca is the Director of Trust Services at Stock Yards Bank & Trust and brings a wealth of experience – and a deep commitment to responsible stewardship – to her new role. A graduate of Sullivan University and IU Indianapolis School of Law, Rebecca lives in Greenville with her husband, Dustin, and their two sons, Owenn and Noah.

When she’s not working or keeping up with her sons’ baseball and basketball schedules, you’ll likely find Rebecca running, horseback riding, boating, or simply spending time with family and friends. She also loves to travel, with a safari and more international adventures with her children high on her bucket list.

Rebecca joined the CFSI board because she wants to give back to the community that has given so much to her and help ensure charitable resources are stewarded in a way that benefits our region for generations to come.

We’re excited to welcome Christian Huber to the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s Board of Directors!

Christian is a seventh-generation master distiller and w**emaker at Visit Huber's Orchard and Winery and Starlight Distillery, carrying on a family legacy that has been part of Southern Indiana for more than 180 years. A graduate of Providence High School and Niagara College (Canada), Christian enjoys traveling – and has a bucket-list goal of visiting every continent, including his ideal vacation of exploring a new w**e region.

But it’s Christian’s passion for long-term impact and opportunity that makes him a great addition to our board. He sees CFSI as a trusted connector that helps individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofits turn generosity into lasting change.

If he could fund one project without limits, Christian would focus on making college more accessible to Southern Indiana students – not just through tuition assistance, but through mentorship, career guidance, and connections to opportunity.

We’re grateful to have Christian helping us carry philanthropy forward for generations to come, and we're excited to announce to additional members later this week.

Months after our 35th Anniversary celebration, we found one more way to say thank you to two people who helped make the evening so special.

Over the weekend, we surprised Tori Murden McClure at the Louisville Community Boathouse during a Louisville Rowing Club youth practice. Surrounded by dozens of young rowers from across Kentuckiana, Tori continues to share her experience and expertise with the next generation. Our gift will help support youth rowing and give these students even more opportunities to build their skills and confidence. (And really, who better to learn from than one of the GOATs?!)

We also surprised Angie Fenton at Hope Southern Indiana, where she serves as Board President. Our gift will help restock Hope’s food pantry shelves, which have been stretched by a busier-than-normal season of neighbors seeking assistance. Angie hopes her gift might inspire others in the area to help support one of the busiest food pantries in Floyd County, especially at a time when the need is so high.

Two surprises. Two meaningful places. Two more examples of what happens when generosity keeps moving.

That’s Carrying It Forward. And we’re pretty happy the ripple is still going.

The flooding and severe storms across Indiana have left a heartbreaking trail of destruction. Lives have been lost. Communities remain underwater. Families are facing unimaginable losses. And with the possibility of more severe weather, the need for help is greater than ever.

For those who feel inclined to help fellow Hoosiers navigating the immediate aftermath and the long road to recovery, we’ve updated our list of local disaster relief funds and nonprofit organizations responding across the state.

From emergency response and immediate needs to longer-term recovery, these organizations are working to support individuals, families and communities affected by the devastation.

The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana provides this list as a starting point for those who want to learn more about ways to help, and we have verified that each organization listed is a U.S. 501(c)(3) public charity.

This week marked the opening of our annual scholarship program for students!

Most of our scholarships are available to current high school seniors graduating in 2027. However, opportunities are also available for eligible non-traditional students. These include individuals age 25 or older who reside in Clark or Floyd County, have attended college but did not earn a degree, and are returning to complete a degree or credential.

We are excited to share more information on some of these available scholarships in the coming weeks. But don't wait until our Sept. 8 deadline to submit – complete your application now for a chance at this life-changing opportunity.
