The holidays will be here before we know it, and so will some important year-end giving deadlines! As you begin making plans for the season ahead, don't forget to leave a little room on your calendar for generosity.

Whether you're supporting a favorite cause, making a gift to a fund at the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, or recommending a grant to a local nonprofit, a little planning now can make all the difference.

We've rounded up some important dates for 2026, including deadlines for grant distributions and charitable gifts made by stock, wire transfer, credit card, and check. We have also provided a link below with even more information to help you avoid any last-minute complications.

We want to wish GOOD LUCK to all of our Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship semifinalists, who will take part in their in-person interviews today.

We are proud to welcome 12 total students – six each from Clark and Floyd counties – that will take part in these interviews. Nine different area high schools will be represented.

Who knew you could discover so much in just 10 city blocks?!

Last Thursday, a group of CFSI fundholders hopped aboard a bus for an afternoon exploring downtown New Albany – a city rich in history, full of character, and home to some pretty remarkable people doing incredible things!

Along the way, we stepped inside three local treasures – Friends of the Town Clock Church, the Cultural Arts Center for Art & History, and the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site – and learned about more than a dozen other nonprofits making a difference within that same small stretch of downtown.

We also enjoyed some delicious local flavors courtesy of Board & You Custom Charcuterie, The Exchange New Albany, The Whimsical Cookie, and W**e Shop, whose stories added even more personality to our adventure!

But beyond the history, food and fellowship, the afternoon offered something even more meaningful: a closer look at the needs facing our neighbors and the organizations working every day to address them.

Sometimes, seeing your community through a different lens is all it takes to appreciate just how special it really is.

Big ideas deserve bigger opportunities! A new program. An expanded service. A project that could make a meaningful difference in someone's life.

Whatever the possibilities, we're excited to see what Southern Indiana nonprofits dream up next!

As of October 1, 2026, the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana has officially DOUBLED the maximum funding available through two of our competitive grant programs!

Community Assist Grants: Up to $10,000 (previously $5,000)
Capacity Building Grants: $10,000–$50,000 (previously $10,000–$25,000)

These increased funding limits apply to all new applications submitted in October, giving nonprofits serving Clark and Floyd counties even more resources to bring their ideas to life.

We can't wait to see the projects, programs, and possibilities that come from this exciting new chapter!

Talk about starting the year on target! 🎯

Our Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) kicked off its new year last week at Silver Heights Camp & Retreat Center in New Albany, where 21 students from seven area schools gathered for an evening of introductions, learning, and a little friendly competition!

And here's where things get interesting: One of the evening's highlights was a game of Archery Tag – a team-building activity made possible by a grant awarded by last year's YPC members!

The $1,000 grant helped Silver Heights purchase equipment that allows young people to build confidence, communication, and teamwork skills in a safe, supportive environment. And this year's council got to experience that impact firsthand!

Our newest YPC members are already preparing their first service project: a food collection benefiting Center for Lay Ministries Food Pantry & Bliss House. Next month, they'll visit Family Ark in Jeffersonville to continue learning about the incredible work happening in our community.

A new year, new faces, and a wonderful reminder that the impact of giving carries forward. We can't wait to see what this group accomplishes!

It's an exciting time for Southern Indiana nonprofits! Beginning TODAY, we're increasing the funding available through two of our competitive grant programs!

We've been sharing some pretty good news lately. Now, let's put it all together!

Over the past couple of weeks, we've introduced you to five nonprofit organizations working to make Southern Indiana an even better place to call home.

You've learned about their missions, the people they serve, and the challenges they're helping our communities overcome. Now, it's time to share the bigger picture.

Through our latest round of competitive grants, the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana has awarded $61,500 to support these five organizations!

From affordable housing and youth services to recovery programs and greater access to community resources, these investments reflect the many ways we're working alongside our nonprofit partners to strengthen Southern Indiana.

We're proud to make these grants possible through our Community Impact Fund – and even prouder of the good work they'll help support.

Finding the help you need shouldn't be the hardest part of getting it.

That's why we're wrapping up our latest round of Competitive Grant announcements with a $25,000 Capacity Building Grant to LifeSpan Resources – our largest award of the competitive cycle!

LifeSpan helps individuals of all ages throughout Clark, Floyd, Harrison, and Scott counties access the resources they need to live safely and independently in their own homes and communities.

This grant will support a comprehensive website modernization, improving accessibility, communication, program registration, and integration with essential service-management tools. As LifeSpan expands its programs to meet evolving community needs, this investment will help strengthen the organization's ability to connect residents with critical resources.

With this announcement, we've now awarded $61,500 to five nonprofit organizations through our latest grant cycle – investments supporting affordable housing, youth services, recovery, organizational growth, and community access.

And there's more good news on the horizon.

This Friday, we'll share another exciting grant-related announcement made possible through the generosity of Lilly Endowment Inc. It's an opportunity to further expand our reach and strengthen our investment in the communities we serve.

In the nonprofit sector, making a difference starts with a plan. And sometimes, that plan can change lives for years to come.

We're proud to announce a $21,500 Capacity Building Grant to Down Syndrome of Louisville (DSL) to help the organization plan for its future – and the future of the individuals and families who count on its support.

DSL serves families across 32 counties, including nine in Southern Indiana, providing education, advocacy, employment support, and opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome to learn, grow, and thrive.

With demand for services growing, this grant will help DSL develop a new three-year strategic plan focused on expanding access, strengthening programs, and reaching more families throughout our region. Because when an organization plans thoughtfully for tomorrow, it can create even more opportunities for the people it serves today.

Recovery takes courage – and it also takes a strong support system.

Our third Competitive Grant recipient is Center for Lay Ministries Food Pantry & Bliss House, which has received $5,000 to support Bliss House, its long-term residential recovery program for women overcoming substance use disorder.

At Bliss House, women have a safe place to focus on what comes next. Along with structured recovery support, residents receive help developing life skills, finding employment, building accountability, and working toward greater self-sufficiency – all while creating a foundation for lasting recovery.

Approximately 30 women will benefit from the program and the support surrounding them. We’re proud to invest in work that helps women move forward, reconnect with their families and build toward a more stable future.

And with three recipients announced, we still have two more celebrations to share next week!
