Restore Small Groups

Restore Small Groups Helping people transform their lives through safe, quality, and affordable peer-to-peer small groups. Everyone is struggling with something. You are not alone!

In small group, we extend love, empathy, and respect to each other in our shared humanity. Our groups consist of 5 to10 participants and 2 trained facilitators, all who commit to an 8-week journey together. In group we get to the heart of our struggles, building intentional, healing relationships on the way. With thousands of participants worldwide, we have seen transformation in the areas of anxi

ety, depression, relationship issues, low self-worth, grief and loss, rage, loneliness, or anything else holding you back from a full life. Restore Small Groups was founded by Scott Reall at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and now operates as it's own non-profit. Scott and Executive Director Sara Hamill work to intentionally provide Journey to Freedom, our flagship book, and other small groups as a means to offer a path to lasting transformation for anyone dealing with life's struggles.

Our annual Celebration of Hope is a night where we gather to share remarkable stories of hope and healing. Stories of God at work through our partners and facilitators here at home and all over the world.

So often, people focus only on symptoms or behaviors. But true transformation happens when we begin caring for the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

At Restore, our small groups create spaces where people can slow down, grow in self-awareness, and move toward healthier rhythms with compassion instead of shame.

Sometimes healing begins with deep conversations.
Sometimes it begins with rest.
A walk outside.
Honest reflection.
Learning to breathe again.
Learning to care for yourself again.

If you’re longing for a safe space to process life, heal, and grow alongside others, we’d love to invite you into a Restore group.

Pictured are Francis and Vakai faithfully doing the work on the ground, helping create spaces for honesty, healing, and hope inside Kadoma Prison.

Journey to Freedom prison groups inmates recently shared a profound realization:
“Yes, we are in jail serving our sentences, but we are carrying two jails. This one, and the one in our minds.”

Groups are addressing breaking free from hidden prisons: shame, fear, guilt, trauma, hopelessness, and the internal entrapment many continue carrying long after their actions.

God is truly at work in a powerful way!

We are deeply grateful for our Zimbabwe team, prison rehabilitation officers, and every participant courageously engaging this process!

Healing is rarely linear.

It’s learning how to slow down.
How to become honest.
How to stay connected.
How to ask for help.
How to keep showing up to your life with greater awareness, courage, and compassion.

At Restore, our groups create space for Christ to meet us in that process.

Safe spaces where people can be real, feel less alone, and move toward deeper healing and wholeness together.

Toxic shame is one of the most destructive forces in human life because it attacks identity at the deepest level.

John Bradshaw’s Model of Toxic Shame helps us understand how shame operates beneath the surface of our lives.

But GRACE interrupts the cycle.
Grace enters where honesty begins.Where vulnerability becomes possible.Where people stop hiding and allow themselves to be seen.

Healing and transformation are happening inside Kadoma prison in Zimbabwe through Restore groups. Inmates navigating murder charges and drug-related offenses are gathering in small groups to reflect, share honestly, and seek healing and reunion with Christ.

Pictured are Francis Lembani and Vakai Matutu, faithfully helping cultivate spaces of healing, reflection, and hope inside the prison system.

Did you know our groups are built on an evidence-based model for change from Dr. James Prochaska? He outlines stages people move through for real change: Precontemplation→Contemplation→Preparation→Action→Maintenance

Research shows nearly 80% of people aren’t ready for meaningful action. They’re in contemplation, aware something needs to change, but unsure how. Restore groups meet people there, help them build vision, and move into lasting change.
