Creativets To empower wounded veterans to heal through the arts and music
(1)

CreatiVets’ mission is to provide combat disabled veterans with the opportunity to use art, music, and creative writing to address the psychological and emotional needs that arise from combat-related trauma. Our goal is to empower veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury with tools they can use for the rest of their lives to combat stress, depression and other side effects of war.

From joining the Marine Corps infantry in 2003, to guarding Camp David, to surviving four IED blasts in four months, Richard Casper’s story is one of service, sacrifice, loss, and purpose.

After losing his friend Luke Yepsen and returning home with a traumatic brain injury, Richard found a new way to keep living — through art, music, and storytelling.

That healing became the foundation of CreatiVets.

Today, CreatiVets helps veterans process their stories through the arts, giving them the tools to turn pain into purpose, trauma into expression, and isolation into connection.

Every veteran has a story worth telling.
Every story has the power to save a life.

Veterans creating, connecting, and healing through art. 🎨✨

We recently hosted a stained glass workshop with local Nashville Veterans at Glassville, giving participants the chance to learn a new creative skill, build community, and experience the power of art in a hands-on way.

A huge thank you to Glassville for welcoming our Veterans into such a beautiful creative space, and to the Tennessee Arts Commission for sponsoring this community program and helping make opportunities like this possible.

CreatiVets is a nonprofit dedicated to ending Veteran su***de through arts and music education. Our community programs give Veterans a place to create, connect, and tell their stories in new ways.

Veterans: we’d love to see you at a future CreatiVets community program. Come create with us.

“Tactical Site Exploitation”

Captain Clifford McMahon
Marines

"Plastic traps moisture and heat, creating a breeding ground for bacteria and mold that rapidly destroys genetic material and renders DNA samples unreadable. Brown paper bags preserve what remains of the body. Fragments. Tissue. Evidence. Like the perfectly severed foot I carried in my drop pouch.

Was he good?
Was he bad?
Was he tortured?
I never learned his name.
I just collected the evidence."

Through this piece, Captain McMahon gives form to the weight of what service members are asked to carry, both physically and emotionally. Art becomes a way to hold what words often cannot, allowing stories like this to be seen, honored, and understood.

At CreatiVets, we help veterans and active duty service members transform their experiences into art, music, and stories that create connection, healing, and hope.

This is what a mission in motion looks like.

From Nashville to Washington, D.C., New York, Mississippi, Seattle, and CMA Fest — CreatiVets has a huge week ahead, and every stop is centered around one thing: helping veterans tell their stories through art and music.

This week, we’re hosting our Veteran Art Showcase in Nashville, supporting military artists performing on major stages, partnering with Exit12 aboard the Intrepid, writing songs with Charlie Worsham and 50 veteran inmates at Mississippi State Penitentiary, joining Hiring Our Heroes in Seattle, and connecting with supporters all week long at CMA Fest.

Art. Music. Storytelling. Healing.

That’s what CreatiVets is all about.

Follow along this week, come see us at CMA Fest, and support the mission at CreatiVets.org.

Every veteran has a story worth hearing. 🇺🇸

For many veterans, art becomes more than just creativity — it becomes a way to process experiences that are difficult to put into words. Through music, painting, writing, photography, and other forms of creative expression, veterans are able to release emotions, reflect on their experiences, and reconnect with themselves in a healthy and meaningful way.

Art creates space for healing. It allows veterans to tell their stories at their own pace while building connection, purpose, and community along the way. When we support veteran artists and programs that encourage creative expression, we help ensure those voices are seen, heard, and remembered.

Take time to listen. Share their stories. Support the healing power of art for our veterans. ❤️

This Memorial Day, we honor the life and sacrifice of Army Sergeant Jerry Hiott Williams — a father, husband, son, and hero who gave everything in service to our country during the Vietnam War. 🇺🇸

Sgt. Williams served with the 25th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, Headquarters Company as a Light Weapons Infantryman. On June 24, 1966, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, he was killed in action by hostile small arms fire while courageously serving his fellow soldiers and his nation.

For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded honors including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

Today, we remember not just his service, but the life he lived and the freedom his sacrifice helped protect. Memorial Day is more than a holiday — it is a time to reflect on those who never made it home.

Please join us in honoring Sergeant Jerry Hiott Williams and all of America’s fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice gave us the freedoms we enjoy every day, and their stories deserve to be remembered.

To honor them, we are creating a special Memorial Day tribute collage featuring photos of fallen service members submitted by families, friends, and supporters from across the country.

If you would like to honor a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice, please send your In Memoriam photo submissions to:📧 [email protected]

At CreatiVets, we believe every veteran story matters. Through art and music, we help veterans process trauma, find community, and share their experiences in meaningful ways. Memorial Day is not only a time to remember those we’ve lost, but also a reminder to continue supporting the veterans who carry those memories with them every day.

If you would like to help us continue this mission, please consider making a donation at ❤️ CreatiVets.org, and click “DONATE”

Together, we can honor the fallen by continuing to serve those who served us.
