Honoring the enslaved who are buried at Nashville City Cemetery. In the Edmondson Homesite Park on Saturday, Nashvillians gathered to honor those who history tried to forget, by painting rocks with the names of those whose names are known. This Saturday join us for the dedication of a memorial garden and bench, and see the 1700 rocks lovingly inscribed all over the city over the last few weeks.

I’ve been invited to speak about William Edmondson and his art, in a pop-up talk and Q & A this Saturday afternoon, in the Edmondson permanent gallery in the mansion. Part of their Community Celebration starting Thursday.

Join us under the big pavilion next to the playground in the William Edmondson Homesite Park & Gardens, and paint a memorial stone to honor the forgotten who are buried in .

Part of the Nashville City Cemetery Association’s Enslaved Memorial Project to honor the memory of approximately three thousand enslaved men, women, and children who were buried in the Nashville City Cemetery between its founding on January 1, 1822, and the arrival of emancipation in Tennessee in 1865.
