Today we are highlighting the publication "Flu Vaccines in Older Adults"

This study looked at how the immune systems of older and younger adults respond to the flu shot. Researchers compared adults 65 and older to adults less than 45. They found that older adults produced similar levels of antibodies as younger adults after vaccination. However, older adults had fewer immune cells that help fight viruses and support a strong immune response. They also found changes in the activity of certain immune cells that may weaken the body's ability to protect against the flu. These findings suggest that future influenza vaccines should be designed to improve both antibody and immune responses in older adults.

Today we are highlighting the publication "Early Detection of Impaired Muscle Function and Frailty in People with HIV"

This study looked at muscle health in men living with HIV who had been taking ART for a long time. Researchers wanted to find out whether tiny molecules in blood, called acylcarnitines, were linked to fat buildup in skeletal muscles. They looked at CT scans and blood samples from 160 men with HIV. The results showed that several acylcarnitines were associated with lower muscle density, suggesting that the muscles were not using fatty acids efficiently for energy. This means that measuring the amount of acylcarnitines in the blood might be a useful way to identify early muscle damage and metabolic problems in people with HIV. This could help researchers develop future treatments to improve muscle health and reduce complications related to HIV.
