On Friday, October 9, the Naples Children Foundation proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of the NCF Pediatric Health Center in Immokalee, marking an exciting milestone in bringing essential pediatric services closer to children and families.

A special thank you to our speakers, Sarah Zaiser-Kelly (SVP of Grants & Community Impact at NCF), Steve Popper (President & CEO at Meals of Hope), Dr. Emad Salman (VP & Chief Physician Executive for Children's Services at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida) and Alma Galindo (recipient of services at the Center), for sharing the importance of collaboration and accessible care.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and to our dedicated partners who work tirelessly each day to support the Immokalee community.

A heartfelt thank you to Patricia Garcia, NCF Pediatric Health Center Manager, and Kristin Hunt, NCF Healthcare Initiatives Director, for organizing such a wonderful celebration and for their continued commitment to ensuring the Center operates with integrity, care and a focus on the families it serves.

Healthcare access becomes meaningful when we see what it changes for a family.

For Alma, getting her 3-year-old son, Gabriel, the care he needed following his autism diagnosis meant traveling from Immokalee to Naples twice a week. Each trip took approximately two hours, creating a significant challenge as the only adult available to make the commute.

Today, Gabriel can access services from The ABLE Academy STAR (Specialized Therapeutic and Analysis Resources) Initiative at the NCF Pediatric Health Center, much closer to home.

The Center brings together organizations with specialized expertise that also helped Gabriel including, Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida Rehabilitation Center of Immokalee for physical, speech and occupational therapy and UF College of Dentistry for pediatric dental services.

For families like Alma and Gabriel's, this collaborative approach means fewer geographic barriers and greater access to the support children need.

The NCF Pediatric Health Center began with an identified community need.

Families in Immokalee needed greater access to essential pediatric services.
The response was built through collaboration.

NCF aligned specialized partners and resources within a renovated 3,600-square-foot facility so multiple forms of care could be available closer to home.

The building is what we can see.

The research, relationships, expertise and coordination behind it are what made the resource possible.

A healthcare resource can only change an outcome when families can access it.

NCF has identified transportation, awareness and access among the barriers affecting children and families. As of 2024, 10.6% of Collier County children lacked health insurance.

For families in Immokalee, distance from specialized pediatric services can create another challenge.

Those realities helped inform the collaborative model behind the NCF Pediatric Health Center, bringing multiple forms of care closer to the families who need them.

Behind every strong network of care are people who help families navigate it.

Meet Jen, a BCBA at The ABLE Academy, where she is the Director of the STAR Initiative as part of NCF’s Early Learning Initiative.

STAR—Specialized Therapeutic and Analysis Resources—works within Collier County’s early learning centers to provide vulnerable children with behavioral health assessment, therapy, education and support. Through this work, Jen helps children strengthen important behavioral, language and academic skills while also supporting their families and educators.

By bringing specialized expertise into the environments where children are already learning and helping connect them with the resources they need, Jen demonstrates what it means to be a Navigator in Action.

At the NCF hosted Navigator Networking Meeting, navigators, care coordinators, social workers, family liaisons, and others come together around the needs they see across Collier County and the work they are doing to address them.

We asked them to explain what collaboration with NCF and one another makes possible that their organizations could not accomplish independently.

The work behind meaningful community change is cumulative.

Since 2001, generosity through the Naples Winter W**e Festival has helped fuel resources for children in Collier County.

Over time, nonprofit relationships expanded, collaborative initiatives developed and NCF’s year-round role continued to grow.

Today, NCF has worked with close to 90 nonprofit organizations and has helped provide 420,000 children with resources and services they need to excel.
