After many requests, here are the words to Clint Raulerson's poem he wrote and read for SW4VETS 2025.

Heroes In The Shadows

It’s 3 AM as she makes her way down the hall to check on the kids , she makes sure they’re warm and softly kisses their foreheads
For her as always when he’s deployed it’ll be another sleepless night in that big empty bed .

She doesnt watch television anymore …
The news stories hit too close to home
Too many Angel flights , young soldiers , lost and forever gone .

She sits in the dark and wonders what far away land he’s in tonight .
He can never talk about the mission when he calls , just says not to worry he’ll be alright .

Her heart skips a beat everytime a car pulls in the driveway or she hears the ring of the telephone
She wonders if bad news came how she would carry on

She forges on through anxiety and endless fear
With the quiet strength of a soldiers wife she wipes away the tears

Whispered prayers as night breaks into day
For her one true love .. so very far away

She’ll stand in the shadows brave and strong
As this war seems never ending and goes on so long

You see , heroes come in many forms ,
And sometimes they wear no uniform .

No medals pinned upon her chest
But still she strives and fights to do her very best

With undying grace she walks a path that only ones like her have known
Unseen, Unheard … and sometimes feeling very alone

She understands the meaning of sacrifice ,for freedom, country and everything she holds dear
So she stands tall , fighting back against the fear

With half of her heart fighting in far away land
And the other half holding a family together showing strength and a steady hand

So here’s to you the quiet few
Heroes fighting battles most people will never view

We honor you all as you push on through the heartache and the strife
Praying for his safe return … God bless you the military wife
