Randy Tempest shares about an incredible blessing and update from Kenya!
*This video was taken in early April while Sam was in the Kenya Highlands*
On August 8, 2025, in the city of Kisumu, Kenya, a horrible tragedy occurred. As 54 members of the same village returned from a burial ceremony, the bus lost control on a treacherous highway. Twenty-five people lost their lives that day, including 4 pastors, and 4 others later due to the injuries sustained. The tragedy was national news in Kenya, and the devastating impact it had on the community was felt around the world. A village, families and churches were impacted as a result of this accident.
In the aftermath, we have seen how the Lord has worked in marvelous ways to see so many people in this area rise up again, and a revival has begun. Many in the village came together in grief, and the Lord provided hope in the strength of each other. Hope 2 grieved with our family in Kenya during this incredibly difficult time. Edward and his brother Joel, and their entire family, are from this village/area and still have land in the area, the highlands of Kenya. Over the years, they have housed many missionaries here for the Lord, and that is being rekindled by God. The Lord is moving.
This video will show several of the inspiring happenings in Kenya as hope continues to be shared. You will see:
-Edward’s house, which needed a roof and other work and is being completed
-The Refuge of Hope, which was built immediately after the tragedy so the people in the area had a place to gather, talk, grieve, eat, drink and share life
-The Community Center, an 8 sided building for people to come together for larger meetings
-The Hope House, a living facility for people who need help to get their life back on track from whatever the situation may be, and where true hope can be shared; each of the 6 rooms will have a bed, showers and toilets. This will allow these people to rest, grow and be safe while recovering and hearing the truth and hope of the Lord.
The great part of this is that all of this is happening due to the sacrifice of so many people, like you. Many are giving financially to help in this. Many are saying yes to going and being boots on the ground to encourage, love, teach and provide hope. Most of the construction around this land you have seen here in the video was done by a group called the Contenders: a group of 30 who voluntarily came to the Refuge of Hope and confessed their need for help, and in that confession these people have been turning their lives around. Joel and others have shared with them that struggling is not the end, but a part of journey. The result is a community that is walking together in grief, rising up to share hope and love and truth, and being light after a dark moment that changed the highlands of Kenya forever. We give all praise to Jesus for His guidance, His strength, and His hope. Thank you Lord!
