There's a new mural in town, and it's brightening up the block!

Local artist Aly Kirkham (aka That Painter Chickk) recently completed this piece at Deena’s Coffee House and White Spot Laundry/DryCleaning, featuring Indiana native wildflowers and a cardinal as a nod to Ball State University. The artist braved some serious summer heat to bring this one to life. Next time you're in the area, stop and grab a selfie! Use for a chance to be featured on our socials.

Kim Miller wears more hats than most people could keep track of:
· Chair of the Old Washington Street Festival
· Chair of Oktoberfest (ecoREHAB of Muncie, Inc.'s annual fundraiser)
· President of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council
· Board member of the East Central Neighborhood Association
· Secretary of the Muncie Human Rights Commission..just to name a few.

On top of all that, Kim owns Tribune Showprint Posters, where she hosts free monthly open print nights open to anyone who wants to create alongside other local makers. Kim has a passion for community engagement and expanding Muncie's arts and culture scene, finding ways to make creativity accessible to everyone.

This month, we're proud to spotlight Kim as part of our Meet the Maker series. Thank you for everything you do! And while we're at it: mark your calendars for Oktoberfest, ecoREHAB's fundraiser, happening September 26.

We couldn't resist a little photo magic to bring in some hometown legends to help us celebrate the new MUNCIE sign downtown.

They may not be there in person, but the sign definitely is. 😉

Now it's your turn to get a pic!

Summer isn't over yet, and Muncie is making sure you send it off right.

The Muncie Three Trails Music Series has three free concerts left, and they're going out with a bang.

First up, catch Blue Moon Marquee at Canan Commons in downtown Muncie on September 5. Their sound is American blues meets Gypsy jazz meets swing.

Then head to the Brown Family Amphitheater at Ball State University for two more nights you won't want to miss:

🎤On August 29, Grammy-nominated, Latin Grammy-winning Flor de Toloache takes the stage

🎤 On September 19, Mike Farris & the Fortunate Few close out the series with Grammy Award-winning gospel soul and blues-rock that'll move you.

All three shows are FREE and open to the public!

Do you recognize this corner of downtown?

Some things about downtown Muncie haven't changed, like the charm and how many of these historic buildings have kept their original foundations and character. Others are completely unrecognizable, like the businesses that call them home now.

Imagine family dinner at a steakhouse with runway views and almost everything house-made on the menu. Amazing Joe's Grill made the move to the Delaware County Regional Airport, and customers followed. Same food they love, more space to enjoy it, and a view that makes the whole meal feel like an experience.

And somehow, that's not even the most memorable meal you'll have here. Walk in through a meat cleaver door handle, order a 40 oz. Tomahawk or Lobster Mac & Cheese, and choose from over 200 bourbons and whiskeys. That's dinner at Trust Your Butcher Steakhouse in downtown Muncie, and it's exactly as good as it sounds.

If you've spent any time in Muncie's art scene, there's a good chance Moth Danner had something to do with it.

A ninth-generation Muncie resident, Moth left for college and new experiences, but came home because she missed her town and the people who raised her. Since then, she's built an entire ecosystem for local artists to thrive. She runs the Muncie Makers Market, organizes Muncie YART during Artswalk, hosts Stitch 'n Bitch every Sunday at The Cup, and runs Cuplets, the local poetry open mic. She also founded 'Hey, Muncie!', a page to connect residents and students, and served on the Board of Directors for the Muncie Arts and Culture Council.

According to Moth, “Artistic expression is a universal drive and a powerful human communication tool.”

Her work earned her the Mayor's Arts Award, and it's easy to see why. This month, we're proud to spotlight Moth Danner as part of our Community Leader Spotlight series. Thank you for everything you do, Moth!
