Based on research the Confederate Army occupied Morgantown April 28-29, 1863. This button was found along Aaron’s Creek on the Ranch. There is still gold gilt on this Virginia Militia button indicating this belonged to an officer. You never know what history is lying just a few inches below the surface!
(The button with the ram was made for two years 1847-1849 by a high end hunting clothing company. One of these flat buttons dates from 1790-1820. Also part of a lead pig that was likely a child’s toy.)
