Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Detective Thompson and our brothers and sisters at the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office

Monongalia County Sheriff Todd Forbes is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Detective Noah Thompson.

Detective Thompson, 27, began his career with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office in 2018 as a Transport Officer. In 2020, he graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy and was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and service, Deputy Thompson was promoted to the Detective Division in 2026.

“Noah was a dedicated and passionate professional who we lost too soon. Our family is smaller by one, and all of us at the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office are heartbroken by the loss of Detective Thompson,” said Sheriff Forbes. “Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone who had the honor to stand alongside Noah.”

Thank you Anheuser-Busch and National Volunteer Fire Council for the generous donation of emergency drinking water, and to Mona Supply for delivering it to our fire station! This water will help keep our firefighters hydrated during wildfires and extended responses in extreme heat.
