As we wrap up the semester, we find ourselves in the perfect time for fish viewing. We would like to invite you all to an opportunity to learn hands-on about our local native Ichthyofauna. Come join us at Dents Run (in Granville across the Mon River about an 8 minute drive from Percival Hall) to watch the unique sucker migration as well as catch some colorful darters, shiners, and more! once in the spring every year, schools of suckers migrate up small creeks and tributaries of large rivers to spawn. Dents Run has great viewing access to witness this phenomenon as well as lots of species to encounter!

We invite you to carpool to this event. The location is provided below for your convenience. Feel free to park at The River Church in Granville and either DM or message us in the WVU AFS GroupMe when you arrive so that we can shuttle you if need be! The church is a solid 10-second drive away from the site but the site itself is parking-limited. Bring waders or clothes you don't mind getting wet in, water, and a desire to learn about some neat fishes!

To get y'all excited for the upcoming event, we will be teasing some of the dishes we plan to serve, as well as some of the great prizes that you could have a chance to win through our silent auctions:

For Monday, we will be starting off with a dish that is a returning crowd favorite from last year - the Pinwheel Stuffed Venison Backstraps! We had an excellent time attending the West Virginia AFS Tri-state conference in Wheeling this past week! There's lots of amazing fisheries research being conducted particularly in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia at the moment, and we were lucky enough to be presented with a handful of really unique projects. Congratulations to all WVU students who presented their research! Especially, congratulations to WVU AFS board members Joe Kingsbury, Cory Bauerlien, and Luka Marques for displaying their research projects!

Congratulations to Brandon Mundy for winning the WVU AFS Travel Grant Award! Brandon is the proud recipient of $300 provided by the WVU AFS subunit to attend a fisheries conference of his choosing. As a long-standing member of the WVU AFS subunit, he has been conducting research at WVU for the past 3 years on the relationship of phenology between fish larvae and their zooplankton prey, as well as among taxonomic groups. Brandon plans to use the funds to present his research on congruences between zooplankton and larval fish phenology in the Ohio River at the West Virginia AFS meeting in Wheeling, WV March 4th - 7th. If you are attending this meeting, you can find his poster presentation in the Fort Henry Room at Oglebay Resort on Wednesday, March 5th from 3:20 - 5:00 pm (poster number 30).

Again, congratulations, Brandon, and thank you to all of our award applicants!
