Students in Southwest Tech’s Building Trades program spent the spring semester helping build a new home in Bennington, from the ground up. 🏡

They started in the school’s workshop, building the home’s wall panels. Then they moved onto the job site to pour the foundation, lay wire mesh, and insulate the basement. Finally, they assembled and framed those same panels on site. Every student in the program had a hand in it. 🔨

The project is a partnership with Bennington County Habitat for Humanity. When the home is finished, Habitat will sell it to an income-eligible mom and her two teenage sons.

VCLF supported the build with a partially forgivable loan through our Career and Technical Education Revolving Loan Fund. The fund offers zero-interest loans for housing and other community-centered projects, getting students out of the classroom and onto job sites across Vermont. 💚

We were excited to see our borrowers Wilson Farm and Woodlawn Creamery in culture magazine: the word on cheese's coverage of the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival! 🧀

Between award-winning cheese and creative, delicious ice cream, they certainly earned the spotlight.

Since 2017, Stephen and Sarah Park have grown Full Belly Farm VT in Monkton into a destination, with up to 1,000 visitors a day coming for pick-your-own berries and a packed farmstand. 🍓🧺

Their farm's next chapter is in Bristol where, with support from a VCLF loan, they will convert an existing barn into a full farmstand and store, with coolers, shelving, new siding, and customer parking. VCLF is proud to support this business expansion through our agritourism loan program.

Visit Full Belly Farm's current farm stand in Monkton Tuesday - Sunday from 11-5 for beautiful pumpkins, mums, and fall produce.

Last week, part of our team spent the day volunteering with CentralVT Habitat for Humanity at a triplex in Northfield 🏡, a project we're proud to help finance through our Career Tech Ed loan program.

Here's what we accomplished:
💪 Moved sheds
🪨 Spread stones
🪏 Cleared rocks and debris
🌱 Planted grass seed

A day well spent! 🙌 Thanks to the Central Vermont Habitat crew for having us.

Our Career Tech Ed loan funds projects that give high school and adult students hands-on experience while expanding affordable housing in Vermont.

Our staff and board spent a day out together in Rutland County! 🚐💚

We started the morning at The Hub CoWorks grabbed lunch at Roots the Restaurant then spent the afternoon visiting three of our borrowers: NewStory Center Pittsford Village Farm and Cornerstone Housing Partners

At New Story Center, we saw the building we helped the organization purchase — giving their staff better office space and creating additional living space for clients.

At Pittsford Village Farm, we heard about the process of redeveloping an old farmhouse into affordable apartments, a childcare facility, a cafe, and a community center.

At Cornerstone Housing Partners, we visited Park Village Apartments in Brandon, where our financing helped purchase additional properties and create more affordable housing.

Days like this are a good reminder of why we do this work — seeing our financing at work in communities across Vermont. 🌱
